Zac Gallen

As an accomplished professional baseball pitcher, Zachary Peter Gallen has truly illustrated what it means to relentlessly pursue one’s dreams. Starting his career at a tender age, his journey to becoming one of the most iconic players in Major League Baseball (MLB) is a remarkable feat deserving immense recognition. Gallen, born on August 3, 1995, in Somerdale, New Jersey, was raised by his adoring parents, Jim and Stacy Gallen.

Gallen’s fervor towards baseball was evident even from his formative years. When he was just five, he steered away from the traditional path of playing tee-ball with kids his age. Instead, he insisted on playing Little League Baseball with a Somerdale team, comprised mainly of children aged between seven and nine. He was drafted by his father’s team in the Little League draft’s third round and quickly proved his talent on the field.

When he was 11, Gallen took his passion a notch higher by joining the Tri-state Arsenal Baseball Academy in New Jersey. It was here that he tapped into his pitching skills, simultaneously holding a position as a second baseman. During his years at Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in Pennsauken Township, New Jersey, Gallen further honed his skills in baseball.

Upon graduation, Gallen attended the University of North Carolina, where he represented the North Carolina Tar Heels in three seasons of college baseball. This period marked a substantial acceleration in his career, as he showcased his skills in the 2014 and 2015 collegiate summer baseball seasons playing for the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Inevitably, the St. Louis Cardinals, the team Gallen had been rooting for since his childhood, drafted him in the third round of the 2016 MLB draft. This was the start of Gallen’s professional career, where he exhibited notable performances spanning various teams under the Cardinals, including the Gulf Coast Cardinals, the Palm Beach Cardinals, Springfield Cardinals, and Memphis Redbirds.

However, his journey with the Cardinals ended in 2017 after being traded to the Miami Marlins. Gallen speculated this was due to his reluctance to attend a winter workout camp. Regardless, Gallen made his MLB debut with the Marlins in 2019, marking a milestone in his career.

His stint with the Marlins was cut short in the same year, as he was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks. His performances for the Diamondbacks solidified him as an essential asset to the team with his impressive stats of 53 strikeouts in 8 starts and an earned run average of 2.89 in his first season.

Gallen’s career reached its zenith in 2023, when he was named the starting pitcher for the National League in the All-Star game. The same year, he agreed to a one-year contract with the Diamondbacks worth $5.6 million. Throughout 2023, he consistently delivered exceptional performances, which not only earned him accolades but also helped the Diamondbacks reach the World Series. Although the Diamondbacks didn’t clinch the title, Gallen made a name for himself by pitching six no-hit innings in Game 5 of the World Series.
