Ryan Michael Pepiot had an impressive career charting from his days in high school to becoming a professional baseball pitcher at the Tampa Bay Rays in the Major League Baseball. Born on 21st August 1997, Pepiot’s journey throughout his life chronicles a tale of an extraordinary sportsman and a staunch lover of baseball.

Raised in Indianapolis and Westfield, Indiana, Pepiot showed talent and enthusiasm for sports from an early age, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball at Westfield High School. Pepiot’s exceptional skills in football led to his recognition as a Senior Class 5-A All-State at quarterback.

Post his high school, Pepiot enrolled at Butler University, where he continued his passion for baseball. For three seasons, he represented the Butler Bulldogs in college baseball, displaying noteworthy prowess on the field. In 2018, post his sophomore year, Pepiot took his experiences to a bigger platform – the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League, a collegiate summer baseball league.

Pepiot’s ability to strategize, hustle, and excel was evident in his junior year when he recorded a 4-4 win-loss record with a 3.92 ERA in 14 starts. He also set a school record by striking out 126 batters over 78 innings. His consistent performance led to a season finish that crowned Butler University with a career leader in strikeouts – a whopping 306 strikeouts to Pepiot’s credit.

In 2019, the Los Angeles Dodgers spotted Pepiot’s talent, drafting him in the third round of the MLB draft. This drafting marked Pepiot as the highest-drafted Butler player in program history. Signing with the Dodgers was a stepping-stone for Pepiot as it led him first to the Arizona League Dodgers and then to the Class-A Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League.

Pepiot ended that season with 13 appearances, 10 starts, and no decisions but had an impressive 1.93 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 23.1 innings pitched. It was not long before he was named to the Dodgers’ 2021 Spring Training roster as a non-roster invitee. The ensuing 2021 season had Pepiot start with the Double-A Tulsa Drillers where he recorded 3-4 with a 2.87 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 81 strikeouts in over 59 ⅔ innings before being escalated to the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers.

Pepiot began 2022 in Oklahoma City with 2-0, a 2.05 ERA, and 36 strikeouts in just six starts. He made his major league debut on May 11, 2022, with an impressive first MLB strikeout against batter Ben Gamel, earning him a promotion to the major leagues.

On July 5th, Pepiot cemented his place in the major leagues by securing his first win against the Colorado Rockies. His debut year with the Dodgers ended with a strong 3-0 record and a commendable 3.47 ERA in nine games, seven of which he started. In the same year, Pepiot made 19 appearances for Oklahoma City including 17 starts, and finished with an amazing 9-1 record and 2.56 ERA.

The year 2023 began with Pepiot being placed on the injured list due to a strained left oblique in his final spring training start. However, August saw him back in action with three starts, five “bulk” relief appearances, and ending with a 2-1 record and a 2.14 ERA.

A major milestone in Pepiot’s career occurred on December 16, 2023, when he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays along with Jonny DeLuca in exchange for Tyler Glasnow and Manuel Margot. The saga of his achievements continued to unfurl as Pepiot recorded the Immaculate Inning, the 115th in MLB history, and the 4th in Tampa Bay Rays franchise history on September 18, 2024, against the Boston Red Sox.
