Manuel Margot's Biography

Manuel Margot Gomez was born on September 28, 1994, in the Dominican Republic. Known for his athletic prowess and sharp attention to detail on the baseball field, Gomez gained widespread recognition as a highly talented professional baseball center fielder who has played for various Major League Baseball (MLB) teams, including the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, and currently, the Minnesota Twins. His journey in the MLB realm started in 2016 when he debuted for the San Diego Padres.

Gomez’s journey to the world of professional baseball began in July 2011 when he was just 17 years old. Having been signed as an international free agent from the Dominican Prospect League by the Boston Red Sox, Gomez received a handsome bonus of $800,000. His professional debut was marked by impressive performances that earned him the Red Sox Minor League Latin Program Player of the Year honors.

In 2012, Gomez showed notable batting prowess, recording a .285/.382/.423 slash line with 38 stolen bases, which ultimately earned him a spot on the DSL All-Star team. He showcased an admirable level of patience in his plays, walking far more than he struck out.

After a successful 2012 season, Gomez was promoted to the Lowell Spinners in 2013. Despite suffering a hamstring injury, he was able to show his potential as a baseball player, recording a satisfactory .270 average and 18 stolen bases in only 49 games.

Gomez’s talent did not go unnoticed in 2014. He was promoted to High A Salem Red Sox of the Carolina League after posting impressive game statistics while playing for the Low A Greenville Drive of the South Atlantic League. This significant improvement saw Gomez rise from No. 11 to No. 4 in the MLB.com Top 20 Boston Red Sox Prospects list.

Throughout 2015, Gomez continued to impress with his remarkable game statistics. After showcasing yet another strong performance in 46 games with Salem, he was promoted to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs midseason. An all-round player, Gomez stunned everyone during the Sea Dogs annual Field of Dream Fan Appreciation Game when he became the first-ever Portland player to hit a cycle at the famous Hadlock Field.

Gomez’s outstanding performances led to the San Diego Padres acquiring him, along with three other players, from the Red Sox for Craig Kimbrel. In the 2016 season, Gomez’s career took an interesting turn as he played for the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas. Despite an injury hurting his chances of playing regularly, he showcased impressive statistics, finishing the season with a .263/.313/.409 batting line along with 13 home runs in 126 games.

Despite facing challenges with bruised ribs in 2018, Gomez still managed to record good stats, but his performance dropped slightly in the 2019 season. Unfortunately, he started losing more time on the field, and his overall contribution to the season registers a .234/.304/.387 batting line with 12 home runs in 398 at-bats.

Gomez’s talent became even more evident when in 2020, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays along with a prospect Logan Driscoll in exchange for Emilio Pagán. Despite changing his previous position, Gomez did not lose his touch on the field. He played an essential role in the Rays’ quest for the best record in the American League, batting .269 with one home run and 12 stolen bases.

The 2021 season saw Gomez continue to play well, with .254/.313/.382 in 421 at-bats, 10 home runs, 57 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. Despite injury setbacks in 2022, he made a comeback in August, hitting .274 in 89 games.

In December 2023, Gomez and his co-player, Tyler Glasnow, were traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for two other players. Later, Gomez was traded by the Dodgers alongside Rayne Doncon to the Minnesota Twins in return for Noah Miller. This marked the beginning of his journey with the Minnesota Twins, where he currently plays as a professional baseball center fielder.

Off the field, Gomez leads a happy family life. He is married to Rachell, and they have two children together. Their first child, a son named Diamond, was born in July 2017, and they welcomed a second child in April 2019.
