Jackson Chourio Bio
Jackson Bryan Chourio is a prominent figure in Major League Baseball. Born in Venezuela on March 11th, 2004, Chourio is a prime example of a young, international signee achieving substantial success in professional baseball. As of today, he serves as the outfielder for the celebrated Milwaukee Brewers, making his major league debut in 2024.
Chourio’s journey in pro baseball commenced with his signing with the Milwaukee Brewers as an international free agent on January 15, 2021. The talented young athlete was warmly received into the league, securing a signing bonus of $1.9 million. His professional debut match took place in the same year, with the Dominican Summer League Brewers, posting impressive statistics in his rookie season: a slash line of .296/.386/.447 in 45 games, with five home runs and 25 RBIs.
The subsequent year saw Chourio start the season with the Single-A Carolina Mudcats. He hit a promising .324/.373/.600 in 250 at-bats, ranking fifth in the league, and claimed 23 doubles (ranking eighth), 12 home runs (ranking ninth), along with ten stolen bases. He also played for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in the High-A division, continuing his impressive journey and batting .252/.317/.488 in 127 at-bats with eight home runs.
Just before the culmination of the 2022 season, Chourio’s talents were recognized with a promotion to the Class AA Biloxi Shuckers. His season-ending awards included the Carolina League MVP and the league’s Top MLB Prospect Award. He was also designated a 2022 MiLB Gold Glove and recognized as the youngest player in Double-A. His cumulative performance across all three classifications was highly commendable: .288/.342/.538 with 20 home runs and 75 RBIs.
In 2023, the Brewers assigned him to the Double-A Biloxi. He kicked off his season as baseball’s sixth highest-ranked prospect, making it the highest rank for a Brewers prospect since Orlando Arcia in 2016. This led to Baseball America naming him baseball’s top prospect during the season. Furthermore, Chourio was selected to play in the esteemed All-Star Futures Game in June 2023. With a stellar performance in 122 games with the Shuckers, he set a new record of 89 RBI for Biloxi in a single season. Chourio also had the rare honour of being the first Double-A player to hit 20 home runs and steal 40 bases since 2005.
On September 18, 2023, he advanced to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds after six eventful games, during which he remained fairly consistent with his previous performances, posting a batting slash of .333/.375/.476 with 2 runs batted in. That same year, on December 4, Chourio signed an eight-year contract worth $82 million with the Brewers, inclusive of two club options for the 2032 and 2033 seasons.
Chourio made his MLB debut on Opening Day in the 2024 season and shortly after, hit his first career MLB home run on April 3. However, his early MLB performance wasn’t as smooth as expected, with a batting average of .210 and an on-base percentage near .250 at the start of June. After adjusting his approach to at-bats, Chourio succeeded in hitting over .300 in the following month.
Chourio’s sporting talent can also be seen in his family. His younger brother, Jaison, is part of the Cleveland Guardians organization, continuing the legacy of the Chourios in the world of major league baseball.
