Freddie Freeman's Biography

Frederick Charles Freeman, known across the baseball world as Freddie Freeman, stands as a well-respected figure in Major League Baseball (MLB). Born in Fountain Valley, California, on the 12th day of September 1989, Freddie didn’t venture too far from his roots, as he is currently a professional first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, his route to playing for the Dodgers, his home state MLB team, was a long and successful detour through the realm of the Atlanta Braves.

His parents, both hailing from Ontario, Canada, traveled south, to California where Freddie was born and raised settling down in America’s sunny state. Their place of birth allowed Freddie dual American and Canadian citizenship. A noteworthy fact that comes into play as he represents the Canadian National Team on the international stage.

Freddie’s attraction to baseball can be traced back to his tender years. As a young six-year-old boy, Freeman joined a team of Little Leaguers from Orange, California. By the time he was just a year older, he was already playing baseball with nine-year-olds, standing out due to his excellent hand-eye coordination and sophisticated game understanding.

This rich experience, playing with older and more experienced athletes, shaped Freeman at a tender age. When he turned nine, he found himself playing in a team filled with 12-year-olds, further developing his skills. Freeman attended El Modena High School where he was a third baseman and a pitcher, thriving greatly in this sporting activity. As a senior in 2007, he had a .417 batting average and a brilliant 6-1 win-loss record as a pitcher, leading to The Orange County Register naming Freeman its 2007 player of the year.

Freeman’s baseball journey was set to continue with the Cal State Fullerton Titans as he had signed a letter of intent to play college baseball for the California State University, Fullerton team. His path took a different turn when he was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 2007 MLB draft. Choosing to forgo a college scholarship, Freeman signed a professional contract worth $409,500 with the Braves.

Freeman’s career with the Atlanta Braves was laden with accomplishments. He was a linchpin in the Braves squad for 12 robust seasons and won his first World Series over the Houston Astros in his final season with the team. He also earned personal recognition as an eight-time MLB All-Star, transcending to the pinnacle of his career when he won the National League’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in 2020.

Following a successful stint with the Braves, Freeman entered free agency, and then signed a six-year, $162 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, adding another exciting chapter in his illustrious career.
