Blake Snell Bio
Blake Ashton Snell is a left-handed starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers as of September 30, 2026. Born December 4, 1992, in Seattle, he attended Shorewood High School in Shoreline, Washington. The Tampa Bay Rays selected him out of high school in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft, and he chose to begin his professional career rather than attend the University of Washington, where he had committed. He made his Major League debut with Tampa Bay in 2016.
Snell established himself as one of baseball’s premier strikeout-oriented starters, winning the American League Cy Young Award in 2018 with the Rays and the National League Cy Young Award in 2023 with the San Diego Padres. After one season with San Francisco in 2024, including his first Major League no-hitter on August 2, 2024, he signed a five-year, $182 million contract with the Dodgers on November 30, 2024. His attack is built around a power fastball and a deep four-pitch mix featuring a slider, curveball and changeup; the breaking-ball combination and changing hitter eye levels are central to his approach.
