BIOGRAPHY

Wang Cong is a Chinese national; she was born on the 15th day of May in 1992. Recognized for her diversity and strength in the combat sports world, Cong has an impressive career as a mixed martial artist, boxer, as well as a Sanda kickboxer. The term Sanda gets its origin from China, and it’s a form of boxing known for using kick and punches.

Even at a young age, Wang Cong had shown signs of sheer determination and courage. Over time, she managed to assemble these qualities and built a legacy that shaped her career in martial arts. The peak of her achievements came when she won the Women’s Lightweight Champion title in Kunlun Fight. Besides this, she emerged as the victorious pugilist in the Kunlun Fight 2018 Legends of Mulan Tournament.

Wang Cong credits her success to a vigorous and disciplined training routine. When she isn’t in the ring, almost all her time goes into honing her skills and building up her strength. She genuinely proves the old adage that says, “the more you sweat in practice, the less you bleed in battle.” But her prowess in martial arts isn’t bound by the professional boundaries alone. She also made her mark in the amateur space.

Her amateur credentials include winning gold medals in two major international sports events. She bagged the gold in Sanda at the prestigious 2013 World Wushu Championships. A year later, she showed her domination in the same sport and won another gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games. She further managed to steal a silver medal in amateur boxing in the 2019 World Championships. These accomplishments filled her with newfound zest that she carried into the professional realm.

In her career as a mixed martial artist, Cong has had some hair-raising bouts. She started her MMA journey with three wins in her first combat encounters, gaining not only victory but also immense confidence. These triumphant matches set the stage for the biggest challenge in Cong’s career: her fight against UFC veteran Wu Yanan. The two faced off at the Kunlun Fight 95 event on January 20, 2024. Cong was able to secure a clean win over Yanan by unanimous decision, displaying her superior skill and strategy.

Following the victory, two fights ensued. The first was against Paula Luna on May 18, 2024, at the Road to UFC Season 3: Episode 2. Cong proved her dominance yet again by submitting her opponent in the first round, which earned her a well-deserved UFC contract. Later in that year, she would stand against Victoria Leonardo on August 24 in the UFC on ESPN 62.

Wang Cong is a dedicated, ambitious, and talented figure who has not only demonstrated remarkable skill in a variety of disciplines within the combat sports world but also shown that hard work and dedication can lead to numerous accolades and recognition. Her journey inspires countless budding athletes who dream of making a mark in the sport.
