So Yul Kim is a South Korean born mixed martial artist who has been competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) since 2012. Known for his aggressive style and tenacity inside the octagon, Kim has earned himself an impressive record of 17 wins, 8 losses and 1 draw.
Kim was born on May 15th 1989 in Busan, South Korea. He began training Judo at age 6 and won many competitions while training under his father who was a professional Judoka. As he grew older he added kickboxing to his repertoire as well as Muay Thai techniques which he learned from watching online videos. In 2011, a friend of hers suggested that she try out MMA which led her to join Team MAD located in Seoul where she got her first taste of competitive MMA fighting.
In February 2012 Kim made her UFC debut when she faced off against Juliana Lima at UFC 156: Aldo vs Edgar event with Lima winning by unanimous decision after three rounds of action-packed fighting. This would be the start of an amazing career as Kim went on to fight some high profile names such as Jessica Andrade whom she beat by split decision in July 2013 at UFC 163: Aldo vs Korean Zombie event and then lost narrowly to former women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate via split decision at UFC Fight Night 33: Hunt vs Bigfoot event in December 2013.
Kim went on to win 4 out of her next 5 fights with two victories coming over Syuri Kondo via unanimous decisions (May 2017 & April 2018) during this period before suffering another loss against current Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko at UFC Fight Night 150 back last April 2019. Despite this disappointing result ,Kim still remains one of the most respected names within the promotion due largely to her excellent striking skills combined with great cardio conditioning . She is also known for being very respectful outside the cage towards other fighters , displaying great sportsmanship towards them all .
