BIOGRAPHY

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) holds a diverse roster of exemplary fighters, recording information about their country origins, recent fighter signings and departures, fight schedules, and results, as well as the current champion in each division. The organization is a global entity, boasting a roster filled with fighters from around 77 countries as of June 30th, 2024.

Over the course of the last month, changes in the roster have been evident. Some fighters have been released from their UFC contracts while others have declared their retirement. This information is verified upon confirmation of their removal from the UFC rosters. However, professional fighting is not always a full stop in a fighter’s career. Several members have signed with the UFC but are yet to make their debut. Some have recently returned from an announced retirement; others are still waiting for their opportunity to return to the UFC ring.

The list of fighters also includes those who have been suspended for various reasons. Suspension can be brought forth by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) or the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) due to violations of ingesting prohibited substances or non-analytical incidents. Local commissions have also imposed suspensions due to misconduct during the fights or at event venues, and UFC has its set of regulations for the same. As recorded on May 16th, 2019, a total of 76 UFC fighters have faced sanctions by USADA since the implementation of the UFC USADA testing program.

The UFC follows a specific protocol for marking the fighters in official broadcasts. The flags listed represent the fighter’s citizenship, though it might not fully or accurately represent their full nationalities.

Apart from maintaining a record of fighter’s profiles and career progression, the UFC also ranks the fighters based on their performances. The rankings are determined by a panel comprising of MMA media members. This panel casts their vote for the top active fighters in the UFC, taking into consideration their weight class and pound-for-pound scores. It is worth noting that fighters can have multiple rankings across different divisions, given they have competed in multiple. However, only the champions are voted for in the pound-for-pound rankings.

As the powerhouse of worldwide competitive fighting, UFC maintains an updated list of its champions spread across nine different weight classes. Recent victories include Amanda Lemos defeating her opponent at UFC 292 on August 19th, 2023, Yan Xiaonan at UFC 300 on April 13th, 2024, Brandon Royval at UFC 296 on December 16th, 2023 and Steve Erceg at UFC 301 on May 4, 2024, among others.

Updated data, as of August 20, 2024, was attained from UFC’s website, as well as its official app if the website lacks updated information.

Moving forward, the UFC will continue to be the epicenter for showcasing fighter talent and prowess, updating the record of its fighters and sustaining the excitement among the fans. The taste of victory and the thirst for competition has forged numerous champions and will continue to rise in the UFC legacy, creating a pool of outstanding talent glorifying the world of professional fighting.
