BIOGRAPHY
Omari Akhmedov was born in Makhachkala, Russia on February 7th 1988. He is a professional mixed martial artist and currently competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s middleweight division.
Akhmedov began his martial arts training at age 15 with Sambo and Freestyle wrestling. After competing for a few years he decided to switch to MMA at 17 and started training with an established team at the UFC-backed gym Gorilla Fighting Systems in Moscow under coaches Ramazan Kurbanov and Andrey Bushuev.
In 2010, Akhmedov made his MMA debut on the Russian regional circuit where he quickly gained notoriety as a title contender winning six fights in less than three months, all by knockout or TKO before making his way into the promotion ProFC UKRAINE where he won two more fights against top competition over two years.
Akhmedov entered The Ultimate Fighter tournament in 2013 but lost early to advance further. He soon found another opportunity when he signed with UFC in 2014 after amassing a record of 13 wins 4 losses prior to joining them . His first fight was against Thiago Santos which ended up being declared a no contest due to an accidental illegal knee which stunned Akhmedov while still standing upright but unable to intelligently defend himself properly afterwards .
In 2015 ,Akhemdov earned his first win inside the octagon by defeating Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos via unanimous decision however followed that up shortly after by dropping another fight against eventual light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier later that year . But then went on four fight winnings streak before finally suffering two setback losses back-to-back lastly ending 2019 season without any wins ( 0 – 2 ).
As of 2020 , Omari has 20 professional bouts under his belt including 18 victories . Having gone through such journey throughout this career , it’s safe that say ’ s highly experienced fighter who can hold its own against anyone from middleweight division given proper opportunity and time needed for preparation ahead of upcoming matches .
