BIOGRAPHY

Nina Nunes is an American Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter and current UFC Featherweight Champion. She was born on October 8th, 1993 in Natal, Brazil to a loving family of four. Growing up, Nina was always passionate about sports and began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of seven. At fifteen she began her MMA career competing in local tournaments in Brazil and quickly gained notoriety for her impressive fighting ability and athleticism.

After winning five consecutive fights as an amateur competitor, she decided to pursue a professional career with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). In 2017, at just twenty-four years old Nina signed with the UFC and made her debut fight against Cat Zingano on March 4th 2018 where she won via unanimous decision. This victory kicked off what would be an incredible eight fight win streak over the next two years – six wins by knockout or submission which earned her performance bonuses from the UFC multiple times.

On December 12th 2020, after defeating Felicia Spencer via technical submission for the vacant featherweight title – Nina Nunes became only the fourth woman ever to become a UFC champion since its inception in 1993. Her spectacular rise through women’s MMA saw fans dubbing her “The Lioness” due to her ferocity inside the octagon combined with grace outside of it.
