Martin Sano is a professional mixed martial artist and current fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He was born on November 2, 1991 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. As a child, he trained in judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. After an impressive amateur MMA career that included wins at local tournaments throughout Brazil, Martin made his professional debut in 2011.
In 2016, Martin signed with the UFC after winning six consecutive fights outside of the organization. During this time period he also became a two-time middleweight champion of Jungle Fight promotion. His UFC debut was against Markus Perez at UFC 212 where he won via TKO in round three due to punches from top position. This victory earned him ‘Performance of the Night’ honors for his performance and solidified him as an exciting up-and-coming prospect for fans to watch out for moving forward.
Since joining the UFC roster, Martin has gone 7–4 overall with four finishes by KO/TKO and one submission finish via rear naked choke over Antonio Carlos Jr.. During this run inside of the Octagon, he has accumulated notable victories over Paulo Costa, Jack Hermansson , Oskar Piechota , Thiago Santos , Uriah Hall & Brad Tavares among others; while losing to Derek Brunson , Anderson Silva , Elias Theodorou & Chris Weidman . Most recently at UFC 253: Adesanya vs Costa on September 26th 2020; Martin fought former light heavyweight champion Dominick Reyes where unfortunately came up short via 1st round TKO due to elbows from Reyes which earned both fighters ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors .
Currently Ranked #15 In The Middleweight Division; Martin looks to make another run towards title contention when fight opportunities become available again post COVID shutdowns worldwide .
