BIOGRAPHY

The Ultimate Fighting Championship, or UFC, is an organization renowned for showcasing some of the best martial artists from around the globe. As of June 30, 2024, the organization has fighters from 77 different countries under its banner. This document will shed light on the current UFC fighters’ records, their country of origin, recent signings, departures, fight results, and the reigning champion of each division.

In the constantly evolving landscape of the UFC, fighters come and go. Over the course of the last month, some athletes have either been officially released from their UFC contracts or have announced their retirement from the sport. Those whose release has not been publicly announced but whose removal from the UFC’s official roster is evident are also included in this document.

Several fighters have signed contracts with the UFC but have yet to step foot in the Octagon for their debut fight. Some, on the other hand, have recently come out of retirement and are on the verge of making their UFC return. All such fighters are a part of this document.

Additionally, this document also includes a list of fighters who are currently facing suspension imposed by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), local commission on misconduct charges, or the UFC itself. As of May 16, 2019, a staggering 76 fighters have been sanctioned by USADA since UFC instituted this testing program.

The flags denoting a fighter’s nationality are in line with what’s showcased on the UFC’s official telecasts. However, they may not necessarily show the full citizenship status of the athlete. The information contained in this document is constantly updated and the most recent update was made after the UFC on ESPN event: Tybura vs. Spivac 2, on August 10, 2024.

A panel consisting of members from the MMA media lends ratings to active UFC fighters based on weight classes and pound-for-pound rankings. A fighter can simultaneously be rated in different divisions where they have competed. The reigning and interim champions tend to occupy top positions in their respective weight classes, and only the champions are eligible to be considered in the pound-for-pound ranking.

UFC’s official website and their mobile application are the main sources for updating fighter rankings and records. The latest update for rankings was made after the UFC 305: du Plessis vs. Adesanya on August 20, 2024.

With nine weight classes, UFC provides a platform for a range of fighters. The reigning champions in each weight class were updated after UFC 305 on August 18, 2024. The reigning champions who defended their titles are Amanda Lemos, Yan Xiaonan, Brandon Royval, Steve Erceg, Marlon Vera, Alexander Volkanovski, Dustin Poirier, Israel Adesanya, Jamahal Hill, Jiří Procházka, and Curtis Blaydes. One unique case was a fight that ended in a draw between Valentina Shevchenko and her opponent at UFC Fight Night: Grasso vs. Shevchenko 2 on September 16, 2023. These fighters defended their titles in various UFC events and further cemented their status as some of the best fighters in their respective weight classes.
