Connor Matthews Bio

Connor Matthews is an American mixed martial artist known as “The Controller,” a featherweight nickname drawn from his former service as a United States Air Force combat controller. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, he began martial arts at age three, took up MMA in high school in 2008, and made his first fight appearance in 2011. Matthews turned professional in 2019 and built his career in New England, where he trained with the New England Cartel under Tyson Chartier.

Matthews reached the UFC after two Dana White’s Contender Series appearances. He lost to Francis Marshall in 2022, then earned a decision over Jair Farias on October 10, 2023, which secured his UFC opportunity. His Octagon debut came against Dennis Buzukja on March 30, 2024. UFC lists Matthews in the featherweight division, at 5 feet 8 inches with a 71-inch reach, and currently labels his status “Not Fighting” as of September 28, 2026. He has described himself as an adaptable all-around fighter, citing wrestling, grappling, jiu-jitsu, boxing and kickboxing as parts of his game.
