Antonio Braga Neto

Antônio Braga Neto is a Brazilian-born mixed martial artist and accomplished grappler with a celebrated career in the world of international combat sports. With a myriad of impactful contributions to the industry, including time spent in combat in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Neto has made a name for himself not only in Brazil but across the world.

Born on October 29, 1987, Neto has always exhibited mastery in the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). He began his professional MMA career in October 2006 in his native Brazil. Demonstrating his prowess, he remained undefeated during his first five clashes, with just one fight proceeding to a decision.

Neto’s career took a significant turn in 2008 when he signed a deal with the popular Japanese Sengoku promotion, marking his first fight in Japan. However, he faced a minor setback when he competed against Ryo Kawamura, succumbing to his first professional loss via decision.

In 2009, Neto embarked on a journey with the Chinese organization, the Art of War Fighting Championship. His inaugural match seemed to be heading towards victory against the Dutch fighter Rodney Glunder but was cut short due to an unfortunate accident where a takedown resulted in Glunder crashing through the ring ropes, injuring his back severely.

Neto’s Jiu-jitsu prowess was endorsed at the international level when he competed in the respected 2011 ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship. A seasoned veteran grappler and UFC fighter, Sérgio Moraes, was his opponent on his ADCC debut where Neto suffered a loss.

Neto’s career took a leap in April 2013 when he inked a three-fight contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. His first UFC bout was against former Strikeforce fighter, Anthony Smith, in which he clinched a quick victory through a kneebar submission in the first round.

However, his scheduled fight against Derek Brunson in November 2013 at UFC Fight Night 31 fell through due to an injury forcing him to withdraw. A similar situation occurred in his slated match against Zak Cummings in July 2015, necessitating his replacement by promotional newcomer, Dominique Steele.

Despite some setbacks with bouts against Clint Hester, Trevin Giles, Andrew Sanchez, Deron Winn, and Abdul Razak Alhassan that ended either in defeat or cancellation because of injuries or personal reasons, Neto’s tenacious spirit never waned.

Unfortunately, his bout in August 2021 was affected by the global pandemic as he tested positive for COVID-19 and had to withdraw. Shortly after his recovery, it was announced that his association with the UFC was coming to an end.

Throughout his career, Neto bagged a gold medal in both the prestigious World Jiu-Jitsu Championship and Pan American Championship titles. Trained under Roberto “Gordo” Correa, Neto has a Black Belt World Champion title in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Currently, he is a part of the Evolve MMA team based out of Brazil and Singapore.
