BIOGRAPHY

Alateng Heili, a name of Chinese origin, with Mongol ethnicity, was born on December 14, 1991. In English, his name is translated as 阿拉腾黑力. Heili is his family name which was adopted after his Mongol root. His journey of becoming a revered mixed martial artist originated from the school days when following his dad’s footprints, he started wrestling.

Upon growing and developing more skills, he struck the eyes of a talent scout, thus bagging an opportunity to be a part of a team in Beijing. Throughout this period, his interest in mixed martial arts grew significantly. As a natural evolution of this developing interest, Alateng Heili initiated his career in mixed martial arts in 2013. His dedication, determination, and hard work paid off when he compiled a striking record of 12–7–1, fighting in diverse Asian sports organizations. His notoriety chiefly grew after he competed in Road FC.

Among the esteemed opponents Alateng faced in the ring, Kai Asakura was unforgettable for everyone around. Asakura, who later became the Rizin champion, defeated Alateng just within the span of 29 seconds. The fight took a quick turn after Asakura hit Alateng with a short left hook and a knee strike. Despite the defeat, Alateng’s spirit remained undeterred. Asakura himself faced a defeat from Je Hoon Moon at Road FC 39, losing via TKO.

In a significant twist of events, Alateng Heili made his powerful debut on August 31, 2019, at UFC Fight Night: Andrade vs. Zhang. His opponent was Danaa Batgerel, whom he successfully defeated and won the fight via unanimous decision. This was indeed a proud moment for Alateng as his fight was named the ‘Fight of the Night’.

On December 21, 2019, he faced Ryan Benoit at UFC on ESPN+ 23 and won the fight through a split decision. Alateng was scheduled to encounter Casey Kenney on September 27, 2020, at UFC 253. However, for reasons not disclosed in public, the fight was postponed to UFC on ESPN: Holm vs. Aldana on October 4, 2020. To the misfortune of Alateng, he suffered a defeat this time via unanimous decision.

A year later, Alateng faced Gustavo Lopez in the UFC Fight Night 192 on September 18, 2021. The showdown resulted in a draw between the fighters. Several months later, Alateng stood against Kevin Croom at UFC on ESPN 34 held on April 16, 2022. Alateng turned the tables this time with a victory by technical knockout quite early in the first round itself. Alateng’s journey of victories continued when he faced Chad Anheilger on September 10, 2022, at UFC 279, and he won via unanimous decision.

Alateng was prepped to go against Rani Yahya on October 14, 2023, at UFC Fight Night 230. Yahya, however, pulled out from the bout for undisclosed reasons. As a result, Alateng replaced Montel Jackson to face Chris Gutiérrez at the same event. Fighting under unexpected circumstances against a different opponent, Alateng had to face another defeat via unanimous decision. Regardless of these downfalls, Alateng Heili continues to be a crucial figure and a formidable challenger in the bantamweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
