BIOGRAPHY

Gabriella Fernandes is an up-and-coming MMA fighter who is quickly making a name for herself in the UFC. Born in Brazil and raised in Canada, she has been fighting professionally since 2011.

Gabriella began her martial arts journey as a child by taking part in judo classes with her father when she was just six years old. She also practiced Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai and kickboxing which all helped shape her into the athlete she is today.

At 17, Gabriella decided to take on the challenge of professional MMA competition and made her debut for Wreck MMA at their “Throwdown” event against Joanne Calderwood. The fight ended quickly though as Gabriella submitted Calderwood via triangle choke in the first round of their fight. After this successful debut performance, Gabriella went on to compete primarily under TKO Championship Fighting before being signed by the UFC in 2020 where she now competes as a strawweight fighter.

Since joining the UFC roster, Fernandes has continued to impress with a record of two wins and no losses so far inside the octagon – victories over Mara Romero Borella at UFC Fight Night 176 (2020) and Miranda Maverick at 2021’s Claudio Silva vs Marvin Vettori event. In addition to her success inside the cage, Fernandes also boast some impressive outside credentials: She won bronze medal at 2016 North American Grappling Association tournament; was an ADCC regional qualifier; earned silver medal at 2018 IBJJF Canadian nationals; finished runner-up at 2019 BJJ Pan Ams No Gi Absolute division; 1st place winner of US Open BJJ NoGi 2020 absolute division among many other accomplishments!

In addition to training hard for fights, Gabriella stays busy outside of training camp collaborating with names such as Reebok and Adidas Originals while advocating for mental health awareness within sport culture – something that resonates heavily with fans around world due to its realness about struggles athletes are likely facing both during fights or after retirement from combat sports careers (or any other type of career).
