Malik Willis

Malik Antonio Willis, born on May 25, 1999, is a well-known figure in the world of professional American football, currently serving as the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, a renowned team that competes in the National Football League (NFL). Willis is a highly decorated quarterback who shot to fame during his college football career with the Auburn Tigers and the Liberty Flames. His exemplary performance led to his selection for the prestigious 2020 Dudley Award, which he won during his stint with the Liberty Flames.

Willis began his high-school career at Westlake High School in Atlanta, before transferring to Roswell High School in Georgia for his final senior year. As a senior, he displayed stunning agility and strength on the field, passing for 2,562 yards and rushing for 1,033 yards with a commendable total of 37 touchdowns.

The turning point of his career came when he committed to play college football for Auburn University. Willis laid a strong foundation at Auburn during 2017 and 2018, playing an active part in 15 games. Willis further cemented his college football career by being awarded the MVP titles at both the 2020 Cure Bowl and the 2021 LendingTree Bowl.

After making a lasting impression in college football, Willis transitioned into the professional sphere when he was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the third round (86th overall) of the NFL draft in 2022. His draft was met with surprise as some projections had placed him as high as the second overall. His first NFL game saw the Titans playing against the Buffalo Bills where he managed to complete a passing attempt and rushed for 16 yards. However, more playing opportunities came by when starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill was hit with health complications, which led to Willis starting for the Titans in several games.

After spending two commendable seasons with the Titans, Willis was traded to the Green Bay Packers in 2024 for a seventh-round pick in the next year’s NFL draft. His initiation into the Packers was baptism by fire as he had to step in for injured Jordan Love early in the season. Nevertheless, Willis rose to the occasion, delivering an impressive performance which included his first career touchdown pass, in his debut game for the Packers in a victory against the Colts.

In his personal life, Willis maintains a strong Christian faith. A fun fact about Willis is that he is the nephew of the renowned ten-year NFL linebacker, James Anderson.
