Joshua Karty's Biography

Joshua Karty was born on March 7, 2002, in Elon, North Carolina. The son of Valerie and Joel Karty, Joshua immersed himself in the world of football from a young age. Choosing to specialize as a placekicker and punter, he played high school football at Western Alamance High School, where his dedication and raw talent became evident.

Standing out from the crowd, Joshua received impressive rankings across major sporting platforms. These included 247Sports, Kohl’s Kicking, and ESPN, all of which labeled him a consensus three-star prospect while ranking him the No. 1 kicking prospect in his class. As a testament to his burgeoning talent, Joshua earned himself a spot in the prestigious 2020 Under Armour All-America Game.

While advantageous offers poured in from multiple schools, including Georgia, UNC, and Appalachian State, it was Stanford’s full-scholarship offer that caught Joshua’s attention. He committed himself on January 20, 2019, and embarked on his college football journey with the Stanford Cardinal team.

Finding his footing quickly, Joshua displayed extraordinary precision in his debut season in 2021; he scored a perfect 27 out of 27 on extra points and a commendable ten out of fifteen on his field goals. His performance throughout the 2022 season surpassed all expectations. He shone particularly bright in an unforgettable match against Arizona State, making five field goals to lead Stanford to a 15-14 victory. Further, his exceptional performance in week eight of the season earned him the title Pac-12 special teams player of the week.

The 2022 season concluded on an especially high note for Joshua. He accomplished a near-perfect score on extra point attempts and missed none on field goal attempts with a long of 61 yards. Due to his incredible performance throughout the season, he was considered for the prestigious Lou Groza Award, given to the nation’s best kicker.

The succeeding year, 2023, Joshua entered with high expectations, mirroring his top form in the preseason, where he was named a first-team All-American. However, during week seven of the season, he justified his ranking when he scored a 47-yard game-tying field goal, sending the match into overtime. In a thrilling double overtime, Joshua showcased nerves of steel when he scored the game-winning field goal against Colorado. Despite the Cardinal being 29-0 down, Joshua’s extraordinary play led Stanford to a 46-43 victory. Eventually, he closed the 2023 season with an impeccable record – 21 for 21 on extra points and 23 for 27 on field goal attempts.

Following a stellar college football career, Joshua declared for the 2024 NFL draft after the end of the 2023 season. Life had even bigger plans for him as he was then drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft. Selected at 209th overall pick, Joshua Karty began his journey in professional football as the respected kicker for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL).
