Jake Gervase's Biography

Jake Gervase, born on September 18, 1995, is an accomplished American football safety known for his remarkable game strategy and approach to the sport. Gervase established his competitive athleticism and developed his football skills at the University of Iowa, playing for the famous Iowa Hawkeyes. He spent an impressive five seasons with the team, beginning his football journey as a walk-on and redshirting his debut season.

As a redshirt senior, Jake Gervase rose to prominence, setting his personal record and leading the team with an impressive stint. This included 89 tackles, seven passes broken up, and four interceptions, a performance that earned him honorable mention in the All-Big Ten Conference. Through these achievements, Gervase showcased his talent and carved a prominent name for himself in the football industry.

Jake ended his collegiate career on a high, boasting 153 total tackles and seven interceptions across 44 sports games. The bright and promising future in professional football seemed to be in the cards for him, and Gervase quickly attracted the attention of the big leagues.

On May 14, 2019, Gervase’s lifelong dream became a reality when he was signed on as an undrafted free agent by the Los Angeles Rams, a leading team in the National Football League (NFL). However, faced with some rookie challenges, Gervase was waived on August 31, 2019, as part of the final roster cuts but was quickly re-signed to the Rams’ practice squad the next day.

Quietly climbing the ranks, he was promoted to the Rams active roster on October 19, 2019. Gervase made his much-anticipated NFL debut in a game against the Atlanta Falcons the next day, playing a snap on defense and participating in 13 special teams.

Throughout July and September 2020, Gervase faced a period of uncertainty as he was waived and re-signed by the Rams multiple times. Despite the challenges and setbacks, he remained diligent and determined, committed to mastering his craft and securing his position in the team. On November 3, 2020, he was re-signed to the Rams’ practice squad but was placed on the practice squad/COVID-19 list on November 18 due to the pandemic, pausing his momentum.

After a brief stint in quarantine, Gervase was restored to the practice squad on November 28. He saw a renewed sense of achievement when he was elevated to the active roster on December 19 for the team’s week 15 game against the New York Jets. His dedication and diligence paid off when he signed a reserve/futures contract with the Rams on January 25, 2021.

In the 2021 season, Jake Gervase demonstrated his versatility as an athlete by transitioning to the position of inside linebacker. This year, although accompanied by ups and downs, also saw Gervase play in two games on special teams and record two tackles during the regular season. Despite the challenges he faced, he played in all four of the Rams’ postseason games, including a thrilling 23–20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

In 2022, Gervase continued his journey with the Rams, re-signing with the team on May 23, and demonstrating his commitment to the squad. Unfortunately, injuries eventually took their toll, leading to his waiver during the final roster cuts on August 30. His football journey took a brief pause when he was placed on injured reserve on December 24, 2022.

In a surprising turn of events, Jake Gervase signed with the Minnesota Vikings on August 24, 2023. However, just a few days later, he was released on August 28, 2023.
