Davante Adams Bio

Adams, Davante Lavell was born on the eve of Christmas in 1992 to Douglas Adams and Pamela Brown in East Palo Alto, California. One of four children, Adams was a natural athlete from a young age and played both football and basketball at Palo Alto High School. His excellent performance as a two-way starter in his senior year led the Vikings football team to a CIF state championship, during which he showed great potential with 64 receptions for 1,094 yards, 12 touchdowns, and impressive stats as a cornerback. He also showed promise in basketball, considered a two-star recruit in the sport.

Adams’ football journey continued at California State University, Fresno where he was a notable asset to the Fresno State Bulldogs football team from 2011 to 2013. Adams redshirted as a true freshman in 2011 but emerged in 2012 under new coach, Tim DeRuyter. Proving an immense contributor to the Bulldogs’ 9-4 season, Adams had notable performances throughout the season, including 118 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his college debut and eight consecutive games with a receiving touchdown. His freshman attainment concluded with 102 receptions for 1,312 yards and 14 touchdowns, landing him the title of the conference’s Freshman of the Year and a freshman All-American.

Adams continued his fruitful tenure with the Bulldogs in 2013, leading the nation with 131 receptions for 1,719 yards, and a staggering 24 touchdowns. Despite playing just two seasons for the Bulldogs, he set Fresco State career records for receptions (233) and touchdown receptions (38), demonstrating his undeniable talent on the field. The Associated Press duly recognized his feats, and he was named second-team All-America.

Stepping into the professional league, Adams was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 2014 NFL draft. Starting as a lower-ranking wide receiver behind teammates Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, Adams worked diligently to climb up. His significant improvement earned him his first Pro Bowl in 2017, after which he signed a four-year, $58 million contract extension.

From 2017 to 2021, Adams emerged as the Packers’ top wide receiver, developing a close professional relationship with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. This partnership yielded a league-leading number of receiving touchdowns in 2020 and his personal best in receptions and receiving yards the following year. Over his eight-year tenure with the Packers, Adams was twice named First-team All-Pro and selected five times for the Pro Bowl.

Contract disagreements in 2022 led to his transfer to the Las Vegas Raiders, in exchange for a first and second round draft pick. Adams then inked a five-year, $141.25 million deal with the Raiders, making him the highest-paid wide receiver of his time. He continued to excel at the Raiders, leading the league in receiving touchdowns in his first season, and securing his spot in his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl.

Beyond his athletic acumen, Adams is a symbol of perseverance. His journey from a two-sport high school star to a nationally acclaimed professional football player, who the Raiders were willing to break the bank for, is remarkable. Through all the team switches, contract negotiations, and negotiations, Adams remains committed to excellence, both on and off the field.
