Conor McDermott

Born in Nashville, Tennessee on October 19, 1992, Conor Francis McDermott would eventually become a significant name in the American professional football world, taking up the role of an offensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League (NFL). His story presents a compelling journey of competitive spirit, perseverance, and team devotion.

McDermott is part of a dedicated sports family. He and his older brother, Kevin McDermott Jr., were raised by active athletic parents, Kevin Sr. and Deborah McDermott. His father was once a basketball player for South Dakota State University, while Kevin Jr. had a fruitful college football career and later played as the starting long snapper for the Minnesota Vikings.

Conor McDermott’s first foray into football began at Ensworth High School, where he ingrained himself within the sport as a tight end, offensive and defensive tackle. This four-year experience fostered a winning mentality as he helped guide his team to a robust 39-8 record and secure a State championship in 2010. During this time, McDermott’s potential was recognized as he was named for the All-Conference team.

A multi-sport athlete, McDermott also showcased impressive basketball talents from 2009 to 2011. As the team captain, he steered his team to a state championship in 2009 and a ranking as the top team in the state in 2011. His impressive average of 15.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in his senior year led to Division II-AA and All-Mid-State first-team selection honors.

McDermott further honed his football abilities at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he joined the Bruins as an offensive tackle in 2012. During his freshman year, McDermott’s dedication yielded an excellent academic record that earned him a spot on the UCLA Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll, while he pursued a degree in Political Science.

He made his first appearance in 2014 as a tight end and continued to feature more prominently in subsequent years, starting 12 games each as a tackle in 2015 and as a left tackle in 2016. During this time, McDermott exhibited a fond appreciation for former basketball player Amar’e Stoudemire and often immersed himself in team camaraderie, highlighted by pranking his teammate Eddie Vanderdoes during a fan appreciation event.

In 2017, McDermott got picked by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the NFL draft. Unfortunately, he was waived by the team later that year but claimed by the Buffalo Bills. He moved to the New York Jets in 2019, where he signed a one-year contract extension. A bout of injury put him on reserve, but he returned later in 2020, scoring his first career touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

McDermott’s career took another turn in 2022 when he re-signed with the Jets, though he was again waived later that year. Not long after, he got signed off the Jets practice squad by the Patriots who assigned him as the starting right tackle. He proved significant to the Patriots until 2023 when contractual complications and injuries led to his release with brief returns to the practice squad and active rosters.

In an unforeseen turn in 2024, the Los Angeles Rams signed McDermott despite a minor setback with an injury.
