Carlos Washington Jr.

Carlos Washington Jr., a native of Clinton, Maryland, was born on December 26, 1998. He is a professional American football player who has etched a place for himself as a running back in the National Football League (NFL), notably for the Atlanta Falcons. He initiated his football endeavors in high school and then expanded his career through college and eventually reached the professional level. His journey is a testament of perseverance, resilience, and relentless pursuit of success.

Carlos Washington Jr attended Riverdale Baptist School during his formative years. Fuelled with a passion for football, he showcased exceptional sporting skills in his high school. He displayed phenomenal football performance, completing 1,200 rushing yards, 300 receiving yards, and 20 touchdowns during his senior year. His impressive performance gained him the honorable mention in the Washington Post All-Met and the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his team. Despite being an unranked running back recruit at that point, his talent and skills did not go unnoticed as he committed to play at New Hampshire, marking the beginning of his collegiate football journey.

In 2017, Washington Jr. spent his freshman year as a redshirt. One year later, he made a significant breakthrough when he played in all 11 games and was a starter in two of them. During the 2018 season, he exhibited top-tier performance with 99 rushes, 582 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, seven touchdowns, 10 kickoff returns and 10 kickoff return yards. His athletic prowess didn’t stop there as, during the 2019 season, he again played in all 11 games and started the first seven, accomplishing 138 rush attempts, 28 receptions, 792 all-purpose yards, 138 rushes for 601 yards, and three touchdowns. In 2020, Washington Jr. participated in a single game of the season, where he achieved 10 rush attempts for 30 yards.

Despite the global pandemic’s odds, Washington Jr. persevered and improved his performance in the 2021 season where he played in 10 games and started nine. During this period, he recorded 117 rush attempts for 547 yards and scored a touchdown, respectively. However, his college football journey took a significant turn when he announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on December 8, 2021. This monumental move made him transfer from New Hampshire to Southeastern Louisiana in pursuit of fresh opportunities and wider horizons.

His 2022 season with Southeastern Louisiana showcased a significant bounce-back and triumphed with him playing in 12 games and starting 10 of them. He finished the season with 147 rushing attempts for 715 yards and an impressive 15 touchdowns.

Washington’s journey reached a critical point when he transitioned into professional American football. Despite not being drafted in the 2023 NFL draft, his skills made it possible for him to be signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons on April 29, 2023. However, the journey was not without setbacks as he was waived on August 29, 2023, only to be reinstated to the practice squad less than a month later on September 20, 2023.

After the regular 2023 season ended, on January 10, 2024, Washington Jr. was once again signed on a reserve/future contract with the Falcons. Despite this upward trajectory, he was waivered by the Falcons later that year on August 27, 2024. Not losing hope, he was soon re-signed to the practice squad, proving that his journey into professional football has unequivocally taught him the art of resilience and never-giving-up attitude.

As Carlos Washington Jr. navigates his professional career by overcoming ups and downs, he is undoubtedly creating a significant name for himself in the world of American football. Despite being a young player, his exceptional abilities, commitment to the game, sportsmanship, and resilience are promising and an inspiration for many young athletes around the world.
