Tyler Dorsey's Biography

Tyler Quincy Dorsey, born on February 18, 1996, is a charismatic shooting guard for Olympiacos of the Greek Basket League and the EuroLeague, and a proud representative of the Greek national basketball team. The American-Greek professional basketball player’s journey to success is one of passion, determination, and resounding talent that shines through in his performances on the court. He honed his craft right from his high school days and earned several accolades that marked his promising trajectory into professional basketball.

Dorsey’s basketball journey began at Ribét Academy in his freshman season; he later transferred to St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California. He made waves in his sophomore year with an impressive scoring average of 17.0 points per game and subsequently led his team to a state championship win as a junior.

As Dorsey’s senior year approached, he returned to his hometown, Pasadena, transferring to Maranatha High School. His scoring capabilities were on full display as he averaged an astounding 34.0 points per game, embellishing his stats with 10.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. His standout performances earned him recognition as the 2015 Gatorade State Player of the Year for California.

In 2015, he elected to play for the Oregon Ducks over the University of Arizona, a monumental decision that would define his college basketball career. Despite his initial declaration for the 2016 NBA draft, Dorsey withdrew and continued his college career. He made invaluable contributions to the Ducks’ success in different tournaments and was recgonized multiple times for his leadership skills and stellar performances.

Following his time with the Ducks, Dorsey was selected in the 2nd round of the 2017 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He featured for the Erie BayHawks, of the NBA G League and was later traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Shelvin Mack. His time with the Grizzlies marked the end of his 2018–19 season.

Dorsey’s professional career then took him to Maccabi Tel Aviv, an Israeli Premier League and EuroLeague team. He later joined Olympiacos of the Greek Basket League and the EuroLeague, inking multiple contracts with them. He also had a brief stint with the Dallas Mavericks under a two-way contract and later the Texas Legends.

As of March 1, 2023, Dorsey began playing for Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe under the coaching of Dimitrios Itoudis, his Greek national team coach. The team also includes his teammates Nick Calathes and Kostas Antetokounmpo. After two seasons with Fenerbahçe, Dorsey returned to Olympiacos, inking a three-year contract with them.

Besides his club commitments, Dorsey has also represented Greece at a national level. Despite being cut from the Under-18 national team’s trial in 2014, he became a key part of the team at the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Cup and later played a key role in Greece’s EuroBasket 2022 campaign.

Dorsey’s Greek citizenship, which he acquired through his mother’s Greek heritage, has opened doors for him on both a personal and professional level. His familial roots are diverse, with a Greek father and Israeli mother’s lineage on his mom’s side, and an African-American background from his father’s side. This multicultural heritage greatly influences and enriches Dorsey’s perspective on and off the court.
