Leonardo Meindl's Biography

Leonardo “Léo” Meindl, born on 20th March 1993, has greatly contributed to the sport of basketball in his native country of Brazil, and internationally during his professional career. Currently, Meindl is employed as a professional basketball player for Alvark Tokyo, a competent team in Japan’s B.League basketball division.

Growing up in Brazil, it was here Meindl began his professional basketball career, signing for the Brazilian League club, Franca, in 2011. This marked the initial stages of what would flourish into an outstanding basketball career. From the onset, Meindl’s potential as a valuable team player was clear. His skills, work ethic and love for the game didn’t go unrecognized. In only his second year of professional basketball, Meindl was bestowed with the prestigious title of ‘Brazilian League 6th Man of the Year’ in 2013. This highly coveted award is a testament to Meindl’s substantial contribution to the game, even in the early years of his career.

The trajectory of Meindl’s career took on an exciting turn in 2020, as he signed a contract with Fuenlabrada, a team competing in one of the top professional basketball leagues in Europe. Here, his basketball prowess continued to be on full display as he maintained an impressive record at Fuenlabrada, averaging 11 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. His value to the team was made clear when he was re-signed on 26th June 2021.

During 2022, Meindl made another significant career move when he signed with U-BT Cluj-Napoca, a renowned team part of the Liga Națională, Romania’s top professional basketball league. In another year, Meindl made his move to Alvark Tokyo of the Japanese B.League on 21st July 2023. This was another pivotal point in his career as Meindl expanded his geographical footprint and experience in different basketball dynamics, providing a broader platform for his talent to be recognized.

In addition to his club contributions, Meindl also stepped up to represent his national team on a global stage. He proudly sported Brazil’s national colors in the 2015 FIBA AmeriCup, which was held in Mexico City.
