Keisei Tominaga's Biography

Keisei Tominaga is a professional basketball player hailing from Japan, noted for his exceptional shooting beyond the arc and impressive performances on both the professional and international stages. Born in Moriyama, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, on February 1, 2001, Tominaga developed his passion for basketball from his parents, Hiroyuki and Hitomi, who both played professional basketball for Mitsubishi Electric. His father, Hiroyuki, even played for the Japanese national team.

Tominaga’s basketball journey began at Sakuragaoka Gakuen High School in Aichi Prefecture, where he averaged 39.8 points per game in the All-Japan Championship as a senior, cementing his reputation as an impressive player. While at Ranger College, Tominaga showed his prowess on the court with his stellar points-per-game average. After verbally committing to the University of Nebraska in 2019, his freshman year saw him earn the NJCAA All-Region V Team and the First Team All-Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference honors. His talents led Ranger College to a season record of 28–3.

Moving forward, Tominaga went on to solidify his reputation as a remarkable player at the University Nebraska for the Cornhuskers under former NBA coach Fred Hoiberg. Showing a promising future with averages such as 16.8 points and a field goal percentage of 54.9 per cent, he was also recognized as the conference’s Freshman of The Year.

Tominaga’s sophomore year was equally impressive. Averaging 16.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game, he was once again included in the NJCAA All-Region V Team and the First Team All-Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference. His performance earned him a place on the NJCAA Division I All-Tournament Team and the Charles Sesher Sportsmanship Award.

Tominaga then transferred to the University of Nebraska on a full scholarship. He took advantage of the NCAA’s ruling that the 2020–21 season would not count against students’ eligibility due to COVID-19, thus securing three years of eligibility instead of the typical two. As a junior, Tominaga showcased his consistent performance with an average of 13.1 points per game. After temporarily contemplating entering the 2023 NBA draft, he returned to Nebraska for his senior season.

Making waves in the professional arena, Tominaga signed with the Indiana Pacers in 2024, despite going undrafted in the NBA draft. He later joined the Indiana Mad Ants, a well-renowned team in the NBA G League.

Tominaga has also left his mark in the international basketball arena. Representing Japan in the 2018 FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship, he led his team in terms of efficiency and points per game. His standout performance continued in the 3×3 Under-23 Nations League and the 2020 Summer Olympics, making him the youngest player to represent Japan in 3×3 basketball. His impressive performance at the Olympics demonstrated his scoring prowess, ranking him near the top in several key categories.

The above-mentioned achievements earned Tominaga the nickname “Japanese Steph Curry”, comparable with NBA player Stephen Curry, and cemented his esteemed reputation in the world of basketball.
