Facundo Campazzo's Biography

Facundo “Facu” Campazzo, an Argentinean professional basketball player, was born on March 23, 1991. Standing at 5 ft 10 inches tall, Campazzo holds a remarkable career, playing primarily as a point guard. Known for his skills and raw talent, he first embarked on his professional career with Peñarol de Mar del Plata, an Argentine league club, in 2008. With Peñarol, he claimed multiple victories – Argentine League championship four times, Argentine Cup, Argentine Challenge Cup, Argentine Super 8 Tournament three times, the InterLeagues Tournament twice, and the FIBA Americas League Championship.

Garnering recognition for his performances, Campazzo was bestowed several accolades – the Argentine League Revelation of the Year and the Argentine Cup MVP in 2010, the Argentine Super 8 Tournament MVP in 2011 and 2013, the Argentine League Most Improved Player in 2012, and the Argentine League Finals MVP in 2012 and 2014.

In August of 2014, Facu signed a three-year contract with Real Madrid of the Spanish League, marking a new chapter in his career. In his first season (2014-15) with Real Madrid, the team secured the EuroLeague championship, defeating Greek club Olympiacos with a final score of 78-59. The season concluded with Real Madrid claiming the league’s playoff finals and thus, achieving the prestigious triple crown.

In 2015, Campazzo was loaned to the Spanish club UCAM Murcia for two successive ACB seasons before returning to Real Madrid for the 2017-18 season. His triumphant stride continued when Real Madrid won the 2017-18 EuroLeague championship after overcoming the Turkish club Fenerbahçe Doğuş. Throughout his 30 EuroLeague games, Campazzo put forth commendable performances with an average of 7.9 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game.

In recognition of his efforts, Facu finished in fourth place in voting for the Spanish Liga ACB’s MVP award of the 2017-18 season. He continued his association with Real Madrid by signing another three-year deal with the club in June 2018. In May 2019, Campazzo was awarded the EuroLeague’s MVP for the month of April and set an all-time record for assists in a Final Four game at the EuroLeague Final four.

In 2020, Campazzo made headlines again, joining Stefan Jović at the pinnacle of the Euroleague’s all-time single-game assists chart. Following a brilliant performance in a match against the German club Alba Berlin, he secured an impressive 19 assists.

Facu’s career took another significant turn in November of the same year when he signed a multi-year contract with the Denver Nuggets of the NBA. However, his NBA start was marked with a brief suspension due to a physical altercation with Lakers guard Wayne Ellington during a match. He was back on track a few months later, signing with the Dallas Mavericks in October 2022 but was waived off subsequently when the team signed Kemba Walker.

In December 2022, Campazzo signed a contract with Crvena zvezda, a Serbian team, but made a comeback with his former team, Real Madrid, in July 2023. His return kick-started with grand success as Madrid clinched its third Spanish Cup in February 2024, with Campazzo earning the tournament’s MVP for the second time in his career.

Besides his impressive club career, Facu has also significantly contributed to the Argentina national basketball team. He represented Argentina in multiple competitions, including the London summer Olympics in 2012, Rio summer Olympics in 2016, and the 2019 FIBA World cup. His impressive performances have helped Argentina win several medals at South American Championships and FIBA Americas Championships.

The highlight of his international career came in 2022, when Argentina won the gold medal in the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup held in Recife, Brazil.
