Bruno Caboclo's Biography
Bruno Correa Fernandes Caboclo, a native of Osasco, Brazil, was born on September 21, 1995. Raised in Barueri and Pirapora do Bom Jesus in the state of São Paulo, Caboclo found his calling in basketball at the tender age of 13. His early career was shaped at Grêmio Recreativo Barueri, a local social club that gave opportunities to children from public schools to participate in sports.
Transitioning to the United States, in January 2013, Caboclo trained under coach Rafael Franco at Score Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina. Despite an unremarkable start, Caboclo proved his worth through perseverance and excellent rebounding skills.
Caboclo returned home to Brazil in April 2013 and began playing professionally with the Pinheiros of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). His performance in the 2013-14 season saw him average moderate scores. However, this did little to dampen his spirit. In June 2014, Caboclo was drafted 20th by the Toronto Raptors in the NBA draft. His NBA debut on November 21, 2014, saw him score 8 points in 12 minutes.
Over time, Caboclo bounced between the Raptors and Fort Wayne Mad Ants, participating in various NBA Summer Leagues. He had an impactful role in leading Raptors 905 to the D-League Finals in April 2017, scoring a game-high 31 points and 11 rebounds.
Caboclo’s journey continued in 2018 and 2019 as he played for various teams, including the Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, and the Memphis Grizzlies. Notably, while at the Grizzlies, he scored a career-high of 24 points and recorded his first double-double.
Caboclo once again moved teams in 2020. This time he was traded to the Houston Rockets, only to be waived the following year. His career took him overseas when he signed with Limoges CSP in France, where he averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds per match.
In August 2021, Caboclo returned to Brazil and had a successful stint with São Paulo FC, winning the prestigious BCL Americas championship and being named the season’s MVP. Following his triumphant return, Caboclo once again ventured into the NBA Summer League in 2022 with the Utah Jazz.
After a brief experience with the Boston Celtics, Caboclo played for the Mexico City Capitanes of the NBA G League. However, his tour of the United States was short-lived, and in January 2023, he moved to Ratiopharm Ulm of the German Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), where he played a crucial role in their 2023 championship win.
Caboclo, seeking new challenges, entered the Italian Serie A with Umana Reyer Venezia in June 2023. Later in the year, he transitioned to Partizan Belgrade in Serbia. Despite a trying season with Partizan Belgrade, Caboclo continued his career, signing with Hapoel Tel Aviv B.C. of the Israeli Basketball Premier League in August 2024.
Beyond his club career, Caboclo has been an instrumental member of the senior Brazilian national basketball team, representing Brazil in 2017 FIBA AmeriCup, the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. In the 2024 Olympics in Paris, he delivered an extraordinary performance, scoring 33 points. He made a record as the first player to have more than 30 points and 15 rebounds in an Olympic game since 1972.
Through the highs and lows on the court, Bruno Correa Fernandes Caboclo remains an inspiration, demonstrating a consistent commitment to his sport and idolized by many across borders.
