Born on the 28th of November 2001, Brandon Elliot Boston Jr., popularly known as BJ Boston, is an American professional basketball player renowned for his impressive skills on the court. As part of a two-way contract, he currently plays for the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) New Orleans Pelicans and Birmingham Squadron of the NBA G League.

Originally from Georgia, Boston attended Norcross High School before transferring to Sierra Canyon School in the Los Angeles suburb of Chatsworth in 2019. During his final year at Norcross, his remarkable performance where he averaged 18.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, recorded his name in the annals of budding talents.

His presence in Sierra Canyon was noteworthy not only for his performance but also for being teammates with Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, and Zaire Wade, the son of Dwyane Wade. The 2020 season saw Boston achieve significant milestones in his career. He was selected for both the prestigious McDonald’s All-American Boys Game and the 2020 Jordan Brand Classic, a testament to his burgeoning talent on the court.

Regarded as a five-star recruit, Boston elected to further his basketball career at the University of Kentucky, renowned for its robust basketball program. His college debut on November 25, 2020, saw him post 15 points and seven rebounds in a decisive 81-45 victory over Morehead State. His freshman year was highlighted by an astonishing performance in the season finale against South Carolina, where he secured 21 points. Throughout his first college season, he averaged 11.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, showcasing his ability to perform consistently at a high level.

On March 20, 2021, Boston committed to the 2021 NBA Draft, thereby foregoing his remaining college eligibility. His talent was recognized at the draft, where he was picked in the second round by the Memphis Grizzlies as the 51st pick. However, he was subsequently traded to the Los Angeles Clippers via the New Orleans Pelicans.

Boston then spent time with the Clippers’ NBA G League affiliate, the Agua Caliente Clippers, contributing to their game with his skills and precision. In 2022, alongside the now-relocated Ontario Clippers, Boston won the G League Winter Showcase championship. His performance in the final was remarkable, earning him the Showcase Cup MVP honor after securing 21 points.

August 8, 2024, marked a new turn in Boston’s career when he signed with the San Antonio Spurs, which, however, turned out to be temporary as he was waived on October 19. A surprising twist of events occurred two days later when New Orleans Pelicans claimed Boston off waivers, converting his deal into a two-way contract.

Life-infusing twists and turns are not limited to Boston’s professional life but extend to his personal life as well. On April 22, 2021, a post-workout drive with his Kentucky teammate, Terrence Clarke, resulted in a heart-wrenching tragedy. Clarke was involved in a fatal car accident in Los Angeles, which Boston, driving behind Clarke, witnessed firsthand. The loss of his friend is one of the profound experiences Boston has had to navigate at a young age.
