Born on October 16, 1999, Aaron Joshua Nesmith is an indisputable talent in the world of professional American basketball. Nesmith first began honing his skills at the Porter-Gaud School, where he joined the varsity basketball team in the eighth grade. He led his team to claim the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) Class 3A state title, a testament to both his leadership abilities and his talent. He remained a formidable force throughout his high school years, earning the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year for his exceptional performance in basketball and his thriving academic career.

Following his impressive high school career, Nesmith was heavily pursued by various universities and colleges. He had secured his position as the 64th ranked player in the country, outperforming numerous athletes in his league. Despite being offered spots at reputable institutions such as Harvard and Columbia, Nesmith decided to pursue his passion for basketball at Vanderbilt, starting in 2017.

The strong performance he had displayed in high school continued into his collegiate career. As a freshman, he played a critical role in the Commodores’ performance after the team faced some significant setbacks. He became the team’s leading scorer in conference play and soon found himself gaining recognition as one of the most promising young players in the Vanderbilt team. The various accolades and titles followed, with Nesmith outperforming his peers on multiple occasions. One of his significant achievements during this time was being named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Week after his exceptional performance in two career games.

However, Nesmith’s journey was not without hurdles. In his sophomore year, he suffered a right foot injury which sidelined him for a chunk of the season. However, his performance before the setback was nothing short of extraordinary. With an average of 23 points per match, he was among the NCAA Division 1’s top scorers. His brilliant three-point performance had him on course for one of the best three-point shooting seasons in the history of college basketball, further solidifying his position as a promising prospect for the NBA.

Nesmith’s dream of playing in the NBA became a reality when he was drafted 14th in the first round of the NBA 2020 draft by the Boston Celtics. He soon became an integral part of the team, evidenced by the four-year, $16.5 million rookie contract he secured with the Celtics. Despite the tough competition for playing time, Nesmith consistently showcased his abilities and made a strong impact with his tenacious performances on the court.

Nesmith’s time in Boston was filled with ups and downs, like any good sports journey. In 2022, Aaron and the Celtics reached the NBA Finals, a significant milestone in his career. However, they would eventually fall to the Golden State Warriors in 6 games.

In a surprising turn of events, Nesmith was traded to the Indiana Pacers in July 2022, alongside multiple other players, for Malcolm Brogdon. Soon, he began to display his full potential as part of the Pacers’ side. Setting multiple career highs and becoming the team’s starting small forward, Nesmith seemed to have found his footing. He continued to improve his game, yielding excellent results on the court.

In confirmation of his ascending career in professional basketball, Nesmith signed a three-year contract extension worth $33 million with the Pacers in 2023. The following season, he set a new career-high score and continued to be an unstoppable force on the court.
