Tyler Fitzgerald's Biography

Tyler Joseph Fitzgerald, an American professional baseball shortstop, was born on September 15, 1997. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB) and made his debut in 2023.

Born and raised in Springfield, Illinois, Fitzgerald graduated from Rochester High School and showcased his love for baseball from an early age. During his senior year in high school, he garnered attention for his .500 batting average, hit nine home runs, and achieved 31 RBIs and 37 stolen bases. Although he was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 30th round of his 2016 draft, Fitzgerald decided to continue his studies at the University of Louisville and play college baseball there.

In his freshman year at the University of Louisville in 2017, Fitzgerald played 48 games with a batting average of .208 over 125 at bats. As a sophomore he had 57 runs, three home runs, and 24 RBIs over 64 games. His impressive performance saw him selected to play for the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod Baseball League during the summers of 2017 and 2018.

In his junior year in 2019, Fitzgerald greatly improved his stats, demonstrating his batting prowess across 66 games. It was a banner year for him, recording64 runs, triples, eight home runs, and 65 RBIs. He also achieved 18 stolen bases and seven sacrifice flies

That summer, he was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft by the San Francisco Giants, with whom he signed for $497,500. Fitzgerald spent the remainder of 2019 with the Arizona League Giants, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, and Augusta GreenJackets, playing 48 games with a .276 batting average and six stolen bases.

Like many other athletes, he was unable to play in 2020 due to the global pandemic. However, in 2021, Fitzgerald returned to play with the Eugene Emeralds, equaling the league’s lead with 28 doubles and 139 strikeouts. His performance won him a post-season All-Star title and made him an MiLB Organization All-Star.

He continued to play in 2022 with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, impressing once again with his baseball skills over 125 games. He stole 20 bases and achieved 74 runs, making him second in the league. He demonstrated his versatility by playing 87 games as shortstop, 30 as second base, eight at third base, and even two as a designated hitter.

In 2023, after a promising start with Richmond, Fitzgerald was promoted to Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. He demonstrated his talents in the 102 games, stealing 29 bases, and achieving 69 RBIs and 72 runs. This impressive season culminated in his promotion to the major leagues for the first time, following his selection to the 40-man roster.

Fitzgerald’s father Mike was a first baseman who was also drafted in the first round of the 1984 MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals; he played in the major leagues and held a strong record in the minor leagues. Tyler’s dedication and skill in baseball likely stem from his father’s influence and hereditary talent, promising a bright future for him in the field of professional baseball.
