Taylor Walls's Biography

Davis Taylor Walls, also known as Taylor Walls, was born on July 10, 1996. He started his journey in the world of Baseball when he was in Crisp County High School, located in Cordele, Georgia. This was where he played his first few games and found his calling as a baseball player. Interestingly, during his senior year in 2014, he excelled unusually, batting over .400 and pitching to a 0.70 earned run average (ERA).

His promising career as a baseball athlete did not stop at high school. In 2014, despite not being drafted in the Major League Baseball draft, Walls moved on to continue his higher education at Florida State University and simultaneously kept nurturing his passion for Baseball. He played on the university’s team, known as the Florida State Seminoles.

When Walls first joined the Seminoles in 2015, he secured a prime starting position initially in their 65-game season as a freshman. Although he scored .220 batting average with 22 runs batted in (RBIs) and secured seven stolen bases, he was just getting started. The following year, as a sophomore, he significantly improved his stats and scored .355/.479/.516 with six home runs, 46 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases over 63 starts. This performance successfully landed him in the All-ACC Second Team. By 2017, in his junior year, he was almost unstoppable; starting 68 of FSU’s 69 games, while hitting .273 with eight home runs and 47 RBIs. After this stupendous season, he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the third round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft.

Since the year he signed with the Rays, Walls has had a whirlwind of challenges and victories. He initiated his professional career with the Hudson Valley Renegades, a member of the New York-Penn League. During this time, he scored .213 with one home run over 46 games. By late 2020, he was added to the 40-man roster despite the cancellation of the minor league season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was followed by his 2021 assignment with the Durham Bulls, where he was promoted to the major leagues for the first time in May. His debut was marked by his first MLB hit, a double off Toronto Blue Jays starter Robbie Ray. He ended up playing in 99 games for the Tampa Bay Rays, hitting .211/.314/.296 with one home run, 15 RBIs, and ten doubles over 152 at-bats.

By 2023, Walls had cemented himself as a consistent part for the Tampa Bay Rays. He went on to play in 99 games for Tampa Bay that year, hitting .201/.305/.333 with 8 home runs, and breaking records with career-highs in RBI (36), and stolen bases (22). After a successful season, his career took a slight pause when he underwent hip surgery to relieve discomfort and repair a labrum tear.

Despite starting the next season on the injured list due to his surgery recovery, he was put back on the game roster in June 2024. His personal life is as active and rich as his professional one. He is married to Hallie Walls, and they share two children; their daughter born in April 2021, and a son born in September 2023.

Additionally, Walls’ personality outside baseball also garnered attention when in March 2022, he retweeted a statement from Ron DeSantis criticizing the NCAA’s decision to allow Lia Thomas to compete in women’s swimming competitions. Even though his actions caused him to face several discussions, he maintained his stance respectfully. All these make Taylor Walls not only an incredible baseball professional but also an adamant individual in expressing his views and beliefs.
