Ryan Weathers's Biography

Ryan Weathers, a talented American Major League Baseball (MLB) player known for his prowess as a pitcher, was born on December 17, 1999. He made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres, and he currently pitches for the Miami Marlins. As the son of the former baseball player, David Weathers, Ryan has had a promising career influenced by a legacy of athletic talent.

Before ascending to professional baseball, Weathers spent his high school years in Loretto, Tennessee, at Loretto High School. His evident potential was highlighted during his junior year in 2017 when he secured an impressive score of 8-0. Notably, his earned run average (ERA) was an astonishing 0.14 with 111 strikeouts in a span of 49 innings. Beyond this, he also demonstrated his adaptability by scoring a .475 average, five home runs, and 29 runs batted in (RBIs).

In his senior year in 2018, Weathers elevated his profile as a formidable player by earning the Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year award. This followed his remarkable performance of achieving an 11-0 with an extraordinary 0.09 ERA and 148 strikeouts in 76 innings. After high school, Weathers committed himself to the renowned Vanderbilt University with an intention of honing his skills in college baseball.

Weathers’ exceptional talent compelled considerable attention before the 2018 Major League Baseball draft. Consequently, he was selected as the seventh overall pick by the San Diego Padres. Shortly after his drafting on July 1, 2018, he successfully signed with the Padres, receiving a $5,226,500 signing bonus. His professional debut was launched with the Arizona League Padres, and he was later promoted to the Fort Wayne TinCaps in August. In seven starting games between the two clubs, he manage a 0-3 score with a 3.44 ERA.

In 2019, Weathers returned to the TinCaps while also earning Midwest League All-Star honors. Over 22 matches, he achieved a 3-7 record, 3.84 ERA, and an amazing 96 innings with ninety strikeouts.

A landmark moment in Weathers’ career transpired on October 6, 2020, when he made his entry into the major leagues during Game 1 of the 2020 National League Division Series (NLDS). This prestigious opportunity dubbed him the second pitcher and sixth player in MLB history to make his launching appearance during the postseason.

Following his remarkable debut, he maintained his momentum in the 2021 season kickoff, forming a part of the Padres’ Opening Day roster. His first MLB career start was marked on April 16, 2021, against Los Angeles Dodgers. By July 24, he hit his first career home run, a solo shot off Miami Marlins’ Braxton Garrett. However, his overall record in the 2021 season was a slight dip with a 4-7 score and 5.32 ERA in 30 matches.

Transition marked Weathers’ career yet again when he was traded to the Miami Marlins in exchange for Garrett Cooper and Sean Reynolds on August 1, 2023. After this move, he only made three appearances with a record of 0-2 and a 7.62 ERA.

Despite the initial setback, Weathers embraced the 2024 campaign as a significant part of Miami’s rotation. For his first 13 starts, he achieved a decent 3-5 record and 3.55 ERA. However, his progress was momentarily halted due to a left index finger strain causing him to be placed on an injured list on June 8. After the recovery period, he was moved to a 60-day injured list on July 7 and later reinstated on September 18.

Off the field, Weathers has also led a fulfilling personal life. He married Thayer Hall in 2022.
