Pete Crow-Armstrong's Biography

Pete Henry Crow-Armstrong was born on 25th March 2002 in Los Angeles, California, where he cultivated his passion for baseball at an early age. Nicknamed “PCA”, the young athlete has, over the years, become a renowned figure in America’s professional baseball scene, playing as an outfielder for the celebrated Major League Baseball (MLB) team, the Chicago Cubs.

Crow-Armstrong kickstarted his baseball journey at Harvard-Westlake School, where he excelled dramatically. His junior year in high school was a definitive moment in his career; he was named the Los Angeles Times Player of the Year after recording a .395 batting average with three home runs, 23 RBIs, forty runs, and a score of 47 hits in 34 games. Crow-Armstrong’s performance was an absolute spectacle, seeing him strike out just seven times. His terrific performance paved the way to play in the 2019 Under Armour All-America Baseball Game, one of the most prestigious events in amateur baseball.

Upon his senior year, the young athlete recorded an impressive batting average of .514, but the global COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the season and brought it to a premature conclusion. Even though he committed to play college baseball at Vanderbilt University in the fall of 2017, the stirring athlete decided to participate in the 2020 MLB draft instead and subsequently got drafted by the New York Mets with the 19th overall pick.

Crow-Armstrong was recognized as one of the most exceptional prospects for the 2020 Major League Baseball draft. His skills were affirmed when he was chosen with the 19th overall selection by the New York Mets, where he signed for a whopping bonus of $3.4 million.

Unfortunately, the budding athlete didn’t get to showcase his skill in 2020 as the minor league season was cancelled due to the pandemic. The subsequent year, he started his season with the St. Lucie Mets of the Low-A Southeast League. However, the season took a sad turn when Crow-Armstrong underwent surgery on his right shoulder to treat a glenoid labral articular disruption, abruptly ending his 2021 season.

A twist of events saw the rising star being traded to the Chicago Cubs on July 30, 2021, for Javier Báez and Trevor Williams. Crow-Armstrong later expressed his surprise about the trade, stating, “I had a sling on my shoulder… I thought it was a joke.” However, he took it in his stride and was assigned to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Low-A Carolina League to commence the 2022 season. He was elevated to the South Bend Cubs of the High-A Midwest League before the end of May the same year.

During the 2022 season, Crow-Armstrong continued making waves in the sport, being chosen to represent the Cubs at the 2022 All-Star Futures Game and named a 2022 MiLB Gold Glove as one of the three finest defensive outfielders in the minor leagues. More so, he and his team, South Bend Cubs, clinched the 2022 Midwest League championship.

Come 2023, Crow-Armstrong was invited as one of the non-roster players for the Cubs’ spring training camp. He spent the season opening with the Tennessee Smokies of the Double-A Southern League, where he started the season as the Cubs’ number one prospect and the sixth-ranked outfielder prospect in the MLB. The same year, he was selected to play at the 2023 All-Star Futures Game.

Further into his career, Crow-Armstrong got promoted to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs in July. In 73 games at Double-A Tennessee, the audacious player reached .289/.371/.527 with 14 home runs, 60 runs batted in, 68 runs scored and 27 steals. In 34 matches for Iowa, he slashed .271/.350/.479 with six home runs, two triples, seven doubles, 30 runs on 38 hits, and 22 RBIs.

Crow-Armstrong celebrated his grand debut in the major leagues on September 11, 2023, with a solid performance of .876 OPS on the year in Double-A and Triple-A. Later in 2024, an unfortunate injury to Cody Bellinger meant an unexpected recall from Triple-A Iowa to the majors for Crow-Armstrong.

Aside from the MLB, Crow-Armstrong has also represented the United States in international competitions, participating in teams that won medals in the COPABE U-12 Pan-American Championship and the COPABE U-15 Pan-American Championships. He earned further recognition when he helped the US secure the gold medal at the 2018 COPABE U-18 Pan-American Championships.

Off the field, PCA is the only child of Matthew John Armstrong and Ashley Crow, who are both Hollywood actors. He played Little League in the Sherman Oaks Little League, where his precocious talent for the game was first noticed. Through a journey dotted with challenges and triumphs, Pete Crow-Armstrong has bloomed into an influential figure in American professional baseball, inspiring aspiring young athletes across the nation with his meteoric rise in the game.
