Niko Kavadas's Biography

Nikolos Siade Kavadas, born on October 27th, 1998, is an accomplished professional American baseball player who excels as a first baseman and designated hitter. Kavadas, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Angels in Major League Baseball (MLB), embarked on his baseball journey in his homely town of Granger, Indiana.

In his adolescence years, Kavadas schooled at Penn High School where he initially began to cultivate his baseball skills and love for the sport. Excelling in his junior year, Kavadas was heralded as the first team All-Northern Indiana Conference and Class 4-A All-State after an outstanding performance where he posted a striking .440 batting average, rounded off with three home runs, 14 doubles, and 44 RBI’s.

He continued this promising trajectory into his college years, committing to the University of Notre Dame where he played college baseball over four rewarding seasons. After an exceptional freshman season, Kavadas played in the Northwoods League for the Kalamazoo Growlers, recording an impressively close .308 average.

Following his sophomore season in 2019, he played for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League. This became a stellar year in which he was named a league all-star after tying for the league lead, posting nine home runs in just 40 games. Moving into his junior year, Kavadas proved his resilience despite an interrupted season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he still recorded a .255 hit with seven home runs and 17 RBI’s in just 13 games.

During his senior season, Kavadas etched his name into Notre Dame’s history books, having batted .302, smashing a school record with 22 home runs, and scoring 64 RBI’s. His performance led him to be named All-Atlantic Coast Conference’s first team, while also earning him first team All-American according to Baseball America. Over the course of his collegiate career, he boasted 46 home runs and 146 RBI’s while maintaining a .286 average over 161 games.

His baseball prowess led him to the big leagues, being chosen in the 11th round, the 316th overall pick of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft by the Red Sox. On August 1st, 2021, the Red Sox signed him, netting him a $250,000 bonus. His first assignment was with the rookie-level Florida Complex League Red Sox before being promoted to the Low-A Salem Red Sox within the same month.

During 2021, he managed an average of .256 with two home runs and six RBI in 15 games. In 2022, Kavadas played on three teams: Salem, the High-A Greenville Drive, and the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, impressing with his performance across the board, recording a .280/.443/.547 slash line in 393 at-bats. His remarkable performance earned him the title of minor league Offensive Player of the Year. The year also saw him selected to play for the esteemed Arizona Fall League.

In 2023, he split his season between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, yielding 22 home runs and 69 RBI despite recording a lower average of .206. The following season saw him return to Worcester before his significant trade to the Los Angeles Angels.

On July 30, 2024, Kavadas, along with Matthew Lugo, Yeferson Vargas, and Ryan Zeferjahn, were traded to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for Luis García. After being traded, Kavadas appeared competitive in 11 games with the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees before being chosen to join the 40-man roster. With great anticipation, he made his major league debut for the Angels on August 16, 2024. His career is marked with tenacity, impressive performance and outstanding dedication to the sport.
