Nick Fortes's Biography

Nicholas Fortes, an acclaimed American professional baseball catcher, was born on November 11, 1996. He is signed with the Miami Marlins, one of the most prestigious teams in Major League Baseball (MLB). Fortes’ path to the MLB began with an impressive college baseball career at the University of Mississippi. In 2018, his promising talent led him to be drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 4th round of the MLB draft. Rising through the ranks, Fortes made his much-anticipated MLB debut in the 2021 season.

Reflecting on his early years, Fortes’ love for baseball was nurtured in the sunny hometown of DeLand, Florida, where he attended DeLand High School. Despite extraordinary talent, he was left undrafted out of high school. However, the unexpected turn of events didn’t deter him. He decided to further enhance his playing abilities by joining the University of Mississippi. Here, he amply demonstrated his prowess on the baseball field, playing for the university’s team, the Rebels. In his junior season at Ole Miss, he showcased impressive statistics, hitting .319/.435/.519, with 11 home runs and 49 RBIs. Soon after, he was snapped up by the Miami Marlins during the 4th round of the 2018 MLB draft.

Commencing his professional journey in the summer of 2018, Fortes simultaneously juggled his time between the GCL Marlins, the Batavia Muckdogs, and the Greensboro Grasshoppers. In his first season, he exhibited promising potential, hitting a combined .226/.346/.258, despite not making any home runs, but still managed to secure 11 RBIs. The following year, Fortes played for the Jupiter Hammerheads, demonstrating consistent progress with a record of .217/.293/.308, 3 home runs, and 29 RBIs in the 2019 season.

While Fortes was making strides in his career, the 2020 global pandemic induced a break in his trajectory. The Minor League Baseball season was cancelled due to COVID-19, temporarily halting his relentless chase. However, Fortes bounced back in the 2021 minor league season, playing for both the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Here, he averaged .245/.332/.367, complete with 7 home runs and 44 RBIs.

His unwavering performance led to his contract being selected for the active roster on September 17th, 2021. Fortes graced the MLB the next day and concluded a successful season with 4 home runs and 7 RBIs in just 14 games. Demonstrating his proficiency and unerring technique on June 26, 2022, Fortes hit a walk-off home run off of Adam Ottavino of the New York Mets, ending the game 3-2.

Aside from his escalating career, Fortes maintains a fulfilling personal life. In November 2020, amidst the global pandemic, he married his beloved wife, Jessica.
