Michael Steven McGreevy, an American professional baseball player, was born on July 8, 2000. Presently engaged as a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals in Major League Baseball (MLB), he made a commendable entry into the major leagues in 2024.

McGreevy hails from San Clemente, situated in sunny California, where he attended High School. His senior year in 2018 marked his initial success as a pitcher evidenced by him maintaining an impressive earned run average (ERA) of 2.20.

Despite his early achievements, McGreevy remained undrafted upon his high school graduation. He pursued further studies at UC Santa Barbara, where his dedication to baseball remained undeterred. In the freshman season, he served in 29 games as a reliever. His track record included a 5–1 win-loss record and six saves. Recognizing these achievements, he was honored as a part of the first-team All-Big West Conference and also received the title of a freshman All-American by Baseball America.

He maintained a noteworthy 2–0 record with a 0.99 ERA in his sophomore years’ initial four games. However, the academic year was abruptly interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic. Once the university sessions resumed, McGreevy continued to excel in his junior season, emerging as a first-round prospect for the upcoming Major League Baseball draft. His season ended with an impressive 9-2 record, a 2.92 ERA, and 115 strikeouts against 11 walks over 101+2⁄3 innings.

The anticipation came to an end as the St. Louis Cardinals favored McGreevy in the first round of the 2021 MLB draft, securing him with the 18th overall pick. He officially embarked on his professional career on July 16, 2021, signing a $2.75 million bonus contract. McGreevy was then stationed with the rookie-level Florida Complex League Cardinals. Reflecting his growth and potential, he was later promoted to the Low-A Southeast’s Palm Beach Cardinals after a short two-game spell. During his time at Palm Beach, he played six innings, giving up six runs and ten hits.

In 2022, McGreevy was assigned to the High-A Midwest League’s Peoria Chiefs to begin the season. After making eight starts and achieving a 3-1 record with a 2.58 ERA over a span of 45+1⁄3 innings, he was promoted to the Springfield Cardinals in the Double-A Texas League. At Springfield, he ended the season with a 6-4 record, a 4.64 ERA, and 76 strikeouts over 99 innings of gameplay.

McGreevy opened the 2023 season again with Springfield but was swiftly promoted to the Triple-A International League’s Memphis Redbirds. Splitting time between the two teams over 27 starts, he compiled a 13-6 record and 123 strikeouts over 153 innings, while conceding a 4.12 ERA.

As 2024 dawned, McGreevy was once again assigned to Memphis. Prior to his promotion, he held a 5–7 record and a 4.45 ERA with 96 strikeouts over 109+1⁄3 innings in 20 games. On July 31, he reached a career milestone when he was promoted to the major leagues for the first time, joining the 40-man roster of the St. Louis Cardinals. This momentous day marked his MLB debut where he faced off against the Texas Rangers as the starting pitcher. In a glorious 10-1 win for the Cardinals, McGreevy conceded just one earned run and struck out three batters. His journey is a testament to his talent, resilience, and unwavering love for baseball.
