Mark Vientos's Biography

Mark Anthony Vientos is an up-and-coming American professional baseball player who primarily serves as a third baseman for the New York Mets in Major League Baseball (MLB). Born on December 11, 1999, Vientos is proud of his Latin American heritage. His mother originates from Nicaragua, and his father, a Mets fan from the Dominican Republic, instilled in him a lifelong passion for baseball.

Vientos began his high school years at Charles W. Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida, where he exhibited impressive baseball prowess, hitting .321 during his junior year in 2016. His ability to perform at high levels was further cemented after taking part in the Perfect Game All-American Classic at Petco Park later that year.

In 2017, he transferred to American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida, for his senior year. Proving his transfer worthwhile, Vientos had an incredible season as a senior. He boasted an impressive .417 batting average in only 26 games, bringing significant attention from scouts in the MLB.

Vientos joined the Majors after being selected by the New York Mets during the second round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft as the 59th overall pick. He signed with the Mets for a hefty $1.5 million, passing on a chance to play college baseball at the University of Miami.

Following his signing, he kick-started his professional career with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Mets and soon after stepped up to the Kingsport Mets of the Rookie-level Appalachian League. He made an impactful debut, scoring .262 with four home runs and 26 RBIs in only 51 games between both clubs.

Returning to Kingsport in 2018, Vientos continued to exhibit his batting prowess, returning a record of .287/.389/.489 with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs in sixty games. His performance during the 2019 season at Single-A South Atlantic League led to him being named the Mets Minor League Hitter of the Year after a fantastic season.

Unfortunately, the 2020 season was disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the cancellation of all minor league games. Vientos was undeterred by this setback and returned in 2021 for the Double-A Northeast’s Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Over 72 games, his incredible performance saw him rise through the ranks to the Syracuse Mets of the Triple-A East in September that same year.

Vientos’ contract was selected by the Mets in November 2021, cementing his place on their 40-man roster. Starting the 2022 season back in Syracuse, he briefly struggled with knee discomfort but quickly returned to form. Over the season, he played 101 games with Syracuse, hitting .280/.358/.519 with 24 home runs and 72 RBIs.

Given an opportunity to prove himself, Vientos was brought up to the major leagues on September 10, 2022. His debut against Miami Marlins was a tough one, but he managed his first major-league hit shortly after and notched his first home run in a game against the Oakland Athletics.

In 2023, Vientos was transferred back to Triple-A Syracuse until mid-May when he was called back to the major leagues. His excellent performance, however, allowed him to bounce back, and in 65 games for the Mets, he batted .211/.253/.367 with 9 home runs and 22 RBIs.

Despite a promising season, Vientos started 2024 back in the Triple-A Syracuse. However, his intermittent stays in the major leagues, including a spectacular performance against the St. Louis Cardinals where he hit a walk-off home run, underscored his innate talent as a major player in American baseball. Despite brief demotion when Starling Marte returned from bereavement leave, Vientos found himself back in the Major leagues. His promotion back to the Major Leagues proves his resilience, talent and a clear indication that Mark Anthony Vientos is a player to watch in the Baseball industry.
