Kyle Isbel

Kyle Grant Isbel, an American professional baseball player, was born on March 3, 1997. He has managed to master his craft as the center fielder for the Kansas City Royals in Major League Baseball (MLB). His career in the MLB took off in 2021 when he made his debut.

Kyle’s baseball journey began in his hometown of Rancho Cucamonga, California, where he attended Etiwanda High School. Baseball quickly became his passion, leading him to impressive stats. As just a junior, he was batting .347, a testament to his exceptional talent. Inspired by his success, he made a commitment to further his skills and play college baseball at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) following graduation. Though he was undrafted in the 2015 Major League Baseball draft, he took it in his stride and enrolled at UNLV, working hard to prove himself.

In his freshman season at UNLV in 2016, Isbel hit .319 with one home run and 28 RBIs in 56 games. This achievement earned him the Mountain West Conference Co-Freshman of the Year honors. That summer, he joined the Santa Barbara Foresters of the California Collegiate League. Isbel’s sophomore year saw him playing in 55 games with an average of .290, six home runs, and 26 RBIs. He followed this season with a stint in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, a renowned baseball franchise, where he was named a league all-star.

In 2018, Isbel experienced a notable year. He managed to slash .357/.441/.643 with 14 home runs and 56 RBIs over 59 games, representing UNLV in his junior season. This extraordinary performance earned him All-MW First-Team honors. Recognizing his potential, the Kansas City Royals selected him in the third round of the MLB draft of the same year. Isbel, thrilled, signed with the Royals, commencing his career with the Idaho Falls Chukars. He was later promoted to the Lexington Legends, ending up with a record of .326 with seven home runs, 32 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases over 64 games.

In the subsequent year, Isbel began with the Wilmington Blue Rocks but was placed on the injured list in April. He was back on the field in July, represented the team in 52 games, and hit .216 with five home runs and 23 RBIs. Following the 2019 season, he played for the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League, earning All-Star honors. Unfortunately, his career was briefly stalled during 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the cancellation of the minor league season.

However, in 2021, the Royals manager, Mike Matheny, announced that Isbel had made the team’s Opening Day roster and would start in right field. He was selected to the 40-man roster on April 1 and made his MLB debut the same day. He even collected his first MLB hit, an RBI single off of Kyle Gibson of the Texas Rangers. A career highlight came on September 3, 2022, in a 12–2 win over the Detroit Tigers where Isbel scored his first career grand slam off reliever Jason Foley.

However, Kyle’s career was briefly interrupted by injury. On May 4, 2023, he underwent a hamstring strain during a game against the Baltimore Orioles. The following day, it was confirmed as a Grade 2 hamstring strain, and Isbel was anticipated to be out of action for an estimated 6 weeks. Despite the minor hiccups, Kyle Isbel’s dedication and unwavering passion for the sport have helped him stand out as a promising player within Major League Baseball.
