Korey Lee's Biography
Korey Bryan Lee was born on July 25, 1998, in Vista, California, USA. He is best known for his career as a professional baseball catcher. As of recent times, he plays for the Chicago White Sox, a team in Major League Baseball (MLB). Before this, Lee had been a player for the Houston Astros, another MLB team.
The baseball journey for Korey Lee began in Vista High School, California, back when he was a senior in 2016. During this period, he recorded a .407 batting average and made 21 RBIs. Despite his promising performance, he wasn’t selected in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft after high school. This led him to enroll at the University of California, Berkeley, where he played college baseball for the California Golden Bears.
In 2017, Korey’s rookie season at the University of California, he played in 28 games, starting 18 of them. He scored a .277 batting average and three RBIs. His performance earned him the opportunity to play in the Northwoods League after that season. Moving into his sophomore year in 2018, he participated in 36 games, initiated 28 times, and recorded a .238 batting average, five home runs, and 26 RBIs. He once again got to play in the Northwoods League during the summer, proving his increasingly refined skills.
By 2019, Korey, in his junior year, showed immense growth, recording a .339/.415/.613 batting average, 15 home runs, and 57 RBIs in fifty games. A major leap in his career was realized on being selected by the Houston Astros under the 32nd overall pick of the 2019 MLB draft. His deal totaled $1.75 million.
During the 2021 season, he started off with the Asheville Tourists of the High-A East and later got promoted to the Corpus Christi Hooks of Double-A Central. An unfortunate oblique strain saw him put on the injured list in mid-August but later saw him activated in early September. His performance on the Hooks saw him scoring .254/.320/.443 with eight home runs and 27 RBIs over 50 matches.
The Astros called him up from the minor league, marking his debut in MLB on July 1, 2022. This began with an unfortunate setback as he was retired on a pop-up. His performance increased and recorded his first major league hit and RBI on July 10. The Astros optioned him back to Sugar Land on August 2, 2022. His time playing for the Astros saw significant moments, including the team’s win in the 2022 World Series.
In 2023, Korey was transferred to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for right-handed pitcher Kendall Graveman. Although he had a shaky start in the White Sox, recording .077/.143/.139 batting line with one home run, and three RBIs in the first 24 games for Chicago, his talent gave the team hope.
As of 2024, he had been optioned to play for the Triple A- Charlotte Knights. However, he got back on the White Sox’s Opening Day lineup as a backup for the injured Max Stassi.
