Josh Rojas's Biography

Joshua Luke Rojas, born June 30, 1994, is an acclaimed American professional baseball player known for being a skilled utility player. Currently, he plays for the Seattle Mariners, a team that is part of the Major League Baseball (MLB). Rojas’s journey in the MLB began with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Rojas’s early life was marked by his growing interest and involvement in baseball. He attended Millennium High School in Goodyear, Arizona, where he first honed his baseball skills. After high school, he went on to play college baseball at Paradise Valley Community College and later at the University of Hawaii. His prowess in the sport became clear during his time in college.

The defining chapter in Rojas’s college baseball career took place in 2015 when he played collegiate summer baseball with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League. His impressive performance throughout the season was just a hint of what was to come in his flourishing baseball career.

In 2017, during his senior year at Hawaii, his talent in baseball became more evident. He achieved a batting average of .294 and hit five home runs. He started his professional career with the Quad Cities River Bandits, eventually also playing four games for the Fresno Grizzlies. In his rookie season, he launched into 56 games, holding a .261 batting average, along with ten home runs and forty RBIs.

In 2018, he played with the Buies Creek Astros and Corpus Christi Hooks. His stellar performance during this season earned him Texas League All-Star honors. In a total of 130 games between both teams, Rojas posted a .263/.351/.408 slash line with eight home runs, 55 RBIs, and an impressive 38 stolen bases. He continued the 2019 season with Corpus Christi before being promoted to the Round Rock Express.

Rojas’s career took another significant turn in July 31, 2019, when the Astros traded him along with players Corbin Martin, Seth Beer, and J. B. Bukauskas, plus cash considerations, to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Zack Greinke. A little over a week after the trade, the Diamondbacks selected Rojas’s contract and promoted him to the major leagues. He made his major league debut that same night against the Colorado Rockies.

The following year, however, witnessed a slight dip in his performance, with Rojas posting a .180/.257/.180 slash line in 17 games before a lower back injury ended his season prematurely. Despite this setback, he made a remarkable recovery in the 2021 season. He served in a utility role for the Diamondbacks, posting a .264/.341/.411 slash line across 139 games.

The latest chapter in Rojas’s career began on July 31, 2023, when the Diamondbacks traded him, along with players Dominic Canzone and Ryan Bliss, to the Seattle Mariners, receiving Paul Sewald in return.
