Jonathan Bowlan Bio
As of September 29, 2026, Jonathan Bowlan is a right-handed Major League Baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. The 6-foot-6, 240-pound reliever wears number 52 and was listed on Philadelphia’s active roster and bullpen depth chart. Philadelphia acquired him from the Kansas City Royals in a December 19, 2025 trade involving left-handed pitcher Matt Strahm. Bowlan previously made his major-league debut with Kansas City on September 27, 2023.
Bowlan was born on December 1, 1996, in Arlington, Tennessee, and attended the University of Memphis, where he pitched for three seasons. The Royals selected him with the 58th overall pick in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft. His college career included a program-record 18-strikeout game during his junior season. As a professional, Bowlan developed a reputation for attacking hitters with a deceptive fastball, a breaking ball that tunnels effectively with it, and an improving changeup. He was recognized as a 2019 South Atlantic League mid-season All-Star and received minor-league Pitcher of the Week honors in the Carolina and Texas Leagues.
