Heliot Ramos's Biography

Heliot Lemuel Ramos Lebrón, born on September 7, 1999, is a Puerto Rican professional baseball outfielder. The San Francisco Giants of the Major League Baseball (MLB) are proud to have him as a part of their team. Ramos’s journey to the MLB began when he was picked in the first round of the 2017 MLB draft, as the 19th overall selection. He eventually made his MLB debut in 2022.

A native of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, Ramos grew up immersed in the sport of baseball. He received his education at Leadership Christian Academy in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. During his time there, he also participated in the competitive sport of baseball, playing for the Las Lomas Potros travel ball club.

One of the highlights of the young sportsperson’s career came in 2016 when he was honored as the Most Valuable Player of the Under Armour All-America Baseball Game, an occasion that showcases high school juniors and seniors. This remarkable game was held on July 23, 2016, at the Wrigley Field.

Before his professional baseball contract came along, Ramos had already committed to play baseball at Florida International University. However, destiny had different plans for him. In 2017, the San Francisco Giants selected him in the first round of the MLB draft with the 19th overall selection. He later signed an attractive deal that included a signing bonus of $3,101,700.

Ramos kicked off his professional career that same year with the Arizona League Giants of the Rookie-level Arizona League, based in Scottsdale, Arizona. He garnered attention right from the start, ranking first in the league with a .645 slugging percentage and shining in several other categories.

His exceptional performances earned him accolades with Baseball America naming him a 2017 Rookie-Level Classification All-Star. Moreover, in the Giants’ 2017 draft class, Baseball America also rated him as the Best Power Hitter, Best Defensive Player, Best Athlete, and with the Best Pro Debut.

Ramos continued to play with the Augusta GreenJackets of the Single-A South Atlantic League in 2018 and subsequently with the San Jose Giants of the High-A California League in 2019. His consistent performance led him to become a part of the 2019 All-Star Futures Game.

Following this, he played for the Richmond Flying Squirrels of the Double-A Eastern League where he made a significant contribution to the team. Ramos carried forward this successful trajectory in 2021 when he was promoted to the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats and was chosen to play in the All-Star Futures Game.

Despite a minor setback in 2023, when he was placed on the 60-day injured list due to a right oblique strain, Ramos bounced back with determination. He was once again promoted to the major leagues on May 8, 2024.

Ramos’s 2024 season was indeed noteworthy. He became the first homegrown Giants outfielder to make it to the All-Star game since Chili Davis in 1986. He also created history on September 15, 2024, as he became the first right-handed batter to hit a “splash hit” into McCovey Cove in Oracle Park’s 25-year history.

While Ramos basks in his successes on the baseball field, he takes pride in his family members who equally excel in their professional sports careers. His elder brother, Héctor Ramos, is a famous soccer player who is lauded as the all-time top scorer of the Puerto Rican national team. Another sibling, Henry Ramos, also chose a career in baseball and marked his MLB debut in 2021 with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
