Gleyber David Torres Castro, best known as Gleyber Torres, was born on December 13, 1996, in Caracas, Venezuela. Today, he is a prominent figure in Major League Baseball (MLB), playing as the second baseman for the New York Yankees. Intrigued by his unique name? His father, Eusebio Torres, named him after the distinctive moniker “Qleyber”. Torres was nurtured into the realm of baseball and life itself by his parents, Eusebio and Ibelise Castro, in a middle-class Caracas household that was challenged by the socio-political unrest prevalent in the region at the time.

The baseball bug bit Torres at the tender age of four when he started off as a center fielder, then a catcher, a pitcher, and finally finding his sweet spot as a shortstop.
