Brett Wisely's Biography

Brett Michael Wisely, known commonly as Brett Wisely, was born on May 8, 1999, in Jacksonville, Florida. He is recognized for his exemplary professional baseball career, beginning as a baseball second baseman in the San Francisco Giants organization. Wisely has a striking academic portfolio, highlighted by his athletic record while attending Sandalwood High School and Gulf Coast State College. He impressively made his professional debut as a Major League Baseball (MLB) player in 2023.

Beloved in his hometown community, Wisely commenced his journey to the professional baseball diamond as a student at Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville. He stood out on the school’s baseball team, showcasing an exceptional senior year in 2017 as a leadoff hitter. He boasted a batting average of .514 with six home runs, securing 11 wins with a 1.25 ERA, and striking out an awe-inspiring 88 batters through 67 innings. It was in this year that he won the prestigious Times-Union’s All-First Coast baseball player award, a reflection of his burgeoning ability on the field.

In 2017, he entered Gulf Coast State College and continued his dominance on the diamond for two years. During his 2019 season, Wisely struck an impressive record. He hit .361/.439/.642, coming sixth in the conference with ten home runs, 50 RBIs, ten stolen bases in 158 at bats over 48 games. As a pitcher, he was 6-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 78.1 innings, retiring 89 batters while only allowing 14 walks. His outstanding performance led to his selection by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 15th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft with the 458th overall pick.

Upon signing with the Rays for a signing bonus worth $125,000, Wisely started his professional club career with the Princeton Rays. His debut reflected a .274/.335/.441 batting score in 179 at bats with five home runs, 30 runs, and 25 RBIs over 47 games. However, the 2020 season gave him no chance to hit the diamond, with the minor league games all cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Undeterred, Wisely began the 2021 season afresh with the Charleston RiverDogs, was promoted to the Bowling Green Hot Rods, and ended the season with compelling stats. Over 100 games with both clubs, he hit .301/.376/.503 in 386 at bats with 78 runs, 19 home runs, 74 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases in 39 attempts. His efforts didn’t go unnoticed, as he was named an MiLB.com Organization All Star.

Continuing with the momentum of 2021, Wisely started 2022 with the Montgomery Biscuits, before finally being promoted to the Durham Bulls. In 117 games that year between the two teams, he scored .273/.366/.455 with 15 home runs, 58 RBIs, and 32 stolen bases. He led the Southern League with 84 runs, his 23 doubles and 62 walks were counted as the tenth-most in the league, and his six triples came second. Wisely was eventually named a Southern League post-season All Star.

The highlight of his career came with his trade to the San Francisco Giants on November 15, 2022, for Tristan Peters, a minor league outfielder. The Giants added him to their 40-man roster soon thereafter. Wisely made his MLB debut on March 30, 2023, as a defensive replacement in center field. Still, his time in the major league was short-lived as he was moved down to the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats just two days later.

Returning to the Giants in mid-April, Wisely recorded his first major league hit on April 21, 2023 – a single off Joey Lucchesi of the New York Mets. A couple of weeks later, he hit his first major league home run off Tyson Miller of the Milwaukee Brewers. In his rookie campaign, Wisely played 51 games batting .175/.231/.267 with 2 home runs, eight RBIs, and two stolen bases. As the 2024 season began, Wisely was once again optioned to the Triple–A Sacramento River Cats, where his career progresses with an unshaken dedication to America’s favorite pastime.
