Bailey Ober

John Bailey Ober, born on the 12th of July in 1995, is an accomplished American professional baseball pitcher. His impressive skill and dedication to the game have elevated him to be a recognized player for the Minnesota Twins, one of the reputable teams under the Major League Baseball (MLB).

Ober’s journey in baseball dates back to his school days in Charlotte Christian School, located in Charlotte, North Carolina. His love for the sport led him to play college baseball at the esteemed College of Charleston, intensifying his honing of skills and expertise.

In the 2016 MLB draft, Ober was sought after by the Los Angeles Dodgers. They drafted him in the 23rd round, a testament to his promising talent. However, Ober chose not to sign with the team and instead returned to his baseball commitments at the College of Charleston.

Ober’s MLB journey finally kickstarted when the Minnesota Twins drafted him in 2017 in the 12th round. Ober, this time, decided to embrace the opportunity and signed with the Twins, officially marking his foray into professional baseball.

His professional debut arrived in 2017 in rookie ball with the Elizabethton Twins. Ober impressive performance, recording a 3.21 ERA in 6 games caught the attention of both fans and critics. His credibility as a powerhouse pitcher was further established in 2018 when he posted a 7-1 record with an ERA of 3.84 in 14 appearances playing for the Single-A Cedar Rapids Kernels.

The 2019 season saw Ober being split between the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos and the High-A Fort Myers Miracle. Nevertheless, Ober shone even brighter, pitching to a remarkable 8-0 record, ending with a 0.69 ERA after 14 games, further proving his significance in the team.

In 2020, the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the minor league season. Despite the setback, The Twins made a significant decision after the season by adding Ober to their prestigious 40-man roster.

As 2021 began, Ober was assigned to the Triple-A St. Paul Saints. On May 18, 2021, he was promoted to the major leagues for the first time and made his MLB debut that Friday as the starting pitcher against the Chicago White Sox. Over 20 starts during his rookie season, Ober maintained a commendable 3-3 record and 4.19 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 92.1 innings pitched.

Despite his rising career, Ober faced adversity in 2022, where he had to be placed on the 60-day injured list due to a right groin strain on July 30. After a grueling recovery, he was activated from the injured list on September 15, making 11 starts for Minnesota in 2022 and pitching to a 2-3 record with a 3.21 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 56.0 innings.

Heading into the 2023 season, Ober was optioned to commence with the Triple-A St. Paul Saints, thus continuing his journey in baseball.
