Zeon Chriss, an American quarterback renowned for his performance with the Houston Cougars, is a name that rings illustrious within American football circles. Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Chriss’ palpable passion for football began to manifest during his time at Madison Prep Academy. His explosive displays during high school, featuring commendable accomplishments such as delivering 183 out of 339 pass attempts, amassing an impressive 2,954 yards, along with 45 touchdowns and only six interceptions, left onlookers astounded. He was also versatile in rushing, accumulating 629 yards, eight touchdowns while also securing a reception for 12 yards.
Chriss’ undeniable talent was recognized widely, ultimately culminating in him being ranked as a three-star recruit. Subsequent to weighing exciting offers from Memphis, San Diego State, Appalachian State, South Alabama, Army, Air Force, Miami (OH), and William & Mary, Chriss committed to play college football at the revered University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL), setting the stage for his remarkable collegiate football journey.
During 2022, his true freshman season, Chriss graced the field in four games and ended the season with notable accomplishments, completing nine out of 15 passing attempts alongside 33 rushing yards from six attempts. His debut, which occurred against Arkansas State, was a glimpse of his potential greatness. A noteworthy accomplishment from this year was during a game versus Texas State, where Chriss completed five out of six passing attempts for 84 yards and a touchdown, crucially contributing to the Ragin’ Cajuns becoming bowl eligible.
The following year in 2023, Chriss participated in eight matches, receiving the honor of starting in six of them. He ended the season with an excellent track record, completing 102 out of 153 passing attempts for a staggering 1,222 yards, 11 touchdowns, and just five interceptions. His first match as a starting quarterback against Buffalo had him display immense potential by completing 22 out of 29 passing attempts for 249 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. A turning point came during a game versus Arkansas State; Chriss experienced a setback in the form of a broken fibula during the fourth quarter, which resulted in him having to sit out for the rest of the season.
By December 20, 2023, Chriss publicly made his intention known of joining the transfer portal. Barely two weeks later, on January 3, 2024, Chriss divulged his decision of transferring to Houston, thereby marking the commencement of a new chapter in his majestic football career.
