Tanner Koziol's Biography
“The Ball State Cardinals football team is an established part of the athletics program at Ball State University. In 2024, they participated in the Mid-American Conference, during the NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team possesses a long-standing legacy of hard work, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence in the field of football.
Leading the Cardinals on the field is the esteemed Mike Neu, who in 2024 was in his ninth year as head coach. Over the years, Neu has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team, motivating the players and fostering a victorious spirit among the members. Every match that the Ball State Cardinals play is a testament to Neu’s leadership and the players’ relentless efforts towards achieving their goals.
The Cardinals’ home matches are held at the Scheumann Stadium, a prominent fixture located in Muncie, Indiana. This stadium has hosted many significant games and witnessed numerous remarkable moments in the history of Ball State football.
The 2024 season proved to be a test of the team’s mettle, starting when the Mid-American Conference performed its preseason coaches poll on July 19. The poll had seen Ball State finish ninth, a lower-than-expected position. Further illustrating the challenging season ahead, they did not receive any votes to win the MAC Championship.
But adversity is not unfamiliar to the Ball State Cardinals. Remarkably, unlike other teams in the FBS, Ball State did not take to the field during “Week 1″ of the season, marking them as the only idle FBS team during traditionally the beginning of the season. In a turn of events, their original Week 1 opponent, Army, backed out after committing to the American Athletic Conference. Undeterred, the Cardinals arranged a game on October 19 against Vanderbilt to replace the match with the Army.
The Cardinals’ season itinerary expanded vastly across multiple stadiums, with games held in different parts of the country. They kicked off at their home stadium, Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, IN, moving on to play at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL. The road trip continues with games hosted at the Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and the Bridgeforth Stadium in Harrisonburg, VA.
The Cardinals also took to the field at the Dix Stadium in Kent, OH, and the FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, TN. Additional home games were played at the Scheumann Stadium before they concluded their travel season at the UB Stadium in Amherst, New York.
The 2024 Ball State Cardinals football team, with its seasoned coach and motivated players, persevered through adversities and continued to strive for excellence throughout the season. Their passionate commitment to the sport and unwavering determination to succeed continues to gather fans and inspire fledgling players across the nation.”
