Sawyer, primarily known for his role as the quarterback, is presently an integral part of the Baylor Bears team.
Robertson’s passion for football was cultivated in his birthplace, Lubbock, Texas. He attended Coronado High School, where he showcased exceptional talent not just in football, but also in baseball, earning him multiple letters in both sporting disciplines.
During his high school years, his skills on the football field were absolutely astounding. His passing records were quite impressive—out of his 1,359 pass attempts, he succeeded in completing 877, covering an enormous distance of 12,148 yards. Notably, his exceptional performance also included a whopping 146 touchdowns and just 22 interceptions.
Even beyond his passing skills, Robertson was a versatile player. His agility was demonstrated through his rushing records, where he managed to cover 553 yards, scoring 13 touchdowns in the process.
Robertson’s remarkable performances at high school football not surprisingly caught the attention of multiple colleges. Garnering a four-star recruit rating, he found himself amid routing offers from several prestigious universities. These included renown sports schools like Arizona State, Arkansas, Florida State, Louisiana, Louisville, Nevada, North Texas, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas State, Tulsa, USC, Washington State, and Wisconsin.
However, Robertson ultimately chose to commit to Mississippi State University, where he could foster his development and skills as a collegiate football player. However, he was redshirted during his first season in 2021.
The subsequent year, in 2022, Robertson made appearances in just five games. That season, he completed six out of 11 passing attempts, covering a total of 23 yards while unfortunately also making one interception. The course of his football journey took an unexpected turn when, on January 4th, 2023, he announced his intention to enter the transfer portal.
A mere week later, Robertson announced that he would be transferring his talents to the Baylor Bears. Over the course of the 2023 football season, he played in six games, ultimately emerging as the starting quarterback against Utah after the unfortunate injury of his teammate, Blake Shapen.
Robertson concluded the 2023 season with some striking accomplishments. Out of 117 passing attempts, he successfully completed 66, achieving a total yardage of 864. He also scored two touchdowns, albeit making four interceptions. Robertson’s agile performance is not limited to his passing skills—he also tallied up some fascinating rushing stats, including 35 attempts covering 69 yards and scoring one touchdown.
Robertson’s football prowess isn’t surprising considering his genetics—it appears that the skill for football runs in the family. His cousin, Jarrett Stidham, is a prominent figure in the National Football League (NFL), currently playing as a quarterback for the Denver Broncos.
