The University of Arizona saw its football team, the Wildcats, significantly advancing their standing during the 2024 NCAA Division I FBS football season, marking their presence in the Big 12 Conference. This was their debut year in the conference, a momentous stride under the guidance of their first-year head coach, Brent Brennan.

The Wildcats stormed the season, starting on a high note and establishing their prowess in the football circuit. They were regulars at their training ground, the Arizona Stadium, located in Tucson, Arizona. This year was a milestone in their journey as it was the team’s first year in the Big 12.

Reflecting upon their stellar performance in the previous year, the Wildcats wrapped up the 2023 season with an overall record of impressive 10–3 and a compelling 7–2 record in the Pac-12 conference play. This landed them a respectable third place in the standing. Their prowess was accentuated by a seven-game winning streak, marking the fourth time in their history that they recorded a 10-win regular season.

The team’s remarkable performance earned them a spot in the much-coveted 2023 Alamo Bowl. This was a significant achievement as it marked the team’s first bowl appearance since 2017. Here, they locked horns with the tough contenders Oklahoma Sooners. The Wildcats triumphed with a score of 38–24, thereby bagging their first bowl victory since 2015.

The Wildcats concluded the season ranking 11th in the final AP Poll, their highest since the 1998 season. The team’s next challenge was the spring practices scheduled for March 26, 2024, with an upcoming spring game penciled for April 27, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona.

Due to some reshuffling in the off-season, the Wildcats faced some changes in their roster. The team lost a total of 42 players, with five graduating, eleven declared for the NFL Draft, and 26 entered the transfer portal. However, the team also added 27 new members to its roster. Notably, the team had a strong offering, with the No. 37 ranked transfer class, as per 247 Sports.

Player Tanner McLahlan was noted for heading towards the 2024 CFL global Draft. Additionally, the Wildcats recruited eight players in the 2024 recruiting cycle. This talented selection of 8 players positioned the team at fifty-sixth according to 247Sports and forty-sixth as ranked by Rivals.com. Although no Arizona signees were listed as the ESPN 300 top prospects, the team also signed 4 JuCo and 6 walk-ons during the national signing period.

Amid trading and procurement of new talent, Demond Williams Jr. and Jordan Washington, despite earning four and five-star recruit tags by ESPN, On3.com, Rivals.com, and 247Sports.com, decided to leave the Arizona program before the 2024 season.
